Hey all! Hope all is well and would like to say in advance Thanks for your info.

So with all your 338-06 shooters out there im looking for a 1 bullet does all in my rifle.. This will be a load for my Dad that i would like to use for the Northern Ontario Moose hunt as well as Deer.

My Current Load/ Bullet is Lapua Brass, 64gr H4350, CCI200 Primer and a 215gr Sierra Gameking going 2750fps. This Combo is Stellar Accurate.. Well under MOA and if i do my part can pull off 1/2MOA on a good day. Sighted in 2" high @ 100 give me a 0 @ 200 and about 8" fall @ 300.

What im worried about is this Sierra Bullet being to stout for deer as they are the 250 with the tip cut back so they do have a reasonably thick jacket @ the nose...

I do have some 210 Partitions that i hear Excellent reviews about and believe this would be an excellent combo but im also curios about the 185GR GMX, Any of the Barns up to 210gr and also the 210gr Swift Scirocco.

Any other bullets out there im sure im missing please feel free to mention.

Thanks so much
Josh

I have used the 185 ttsx with stellar results in a 338/06 I had one with a 26 inch barrel and could get them over 3k
Used it on several deer elk and 1 moose

I use 225 grain accubonds in my 338 federal, pushed at 2540 they are deadly with a high BC. Like you I use the 215 game kings, they are supper accurate but expansion is iffy, I keep those for ringing steel.

Thanks all for the Replies. Potato i did think about the Ballistic Tips in the 200 Gr version but they only make the Silver Ballistic tips and even they are hard to find.
9.3 Mauser. I will look into woodleighs although the Partitions are getting VERY high Praise in the 338-06
Tony D. my 338-06 has a 24" tube and from what ive seen is what they call a "fast barrel" Im trying to keep pressures low to keep brass life to an max.(8 firings). Im very curious to try the 185GMX as well as 3000FPS seems nice for those long shots and a High BC... but the 210 Partition has the weight and life long proven results.

Thanks All
Josh

That is fantastic accuracy and with a game bullet, too. I like the extra confidence of an accurate rifle/load.

It would be good on moose and more than enough on deer. In fact, the fact that it would not open much on a deer is a good thing. Less spoiled meat.

225 Hornady SP, 210 TTSX, or 200 Ballistic Tip. Of the 3 the Ballistic Tip leaves the neatest entry and exit wounds on deer.

As mentioned your current Game King also would work very well.

I have loaded for the 185 GMX, 210 swift sciocco II, 210 ttsx and 210 partition. Best groups for the 210's were with RL15.
Shooting the partitions currently.

I also use the 210 partitions. I have played around with a few different loads and the 225 grain hornady SST's were the next best for accuracy. I have never taken an animal with anything other than the partitions though.

I am currently shooting the Nosler 225 accubond with Vihtavouri N540. Pushing 2670 fps out of a 23" barrel. Could push it faster but no need to.Very accurate. Shot one moose with it this year.

I’ve tried the 210 partition in several different 338 configs from 338 fed to Lapua and much to my demise they always were poorly grouping because I always thought of them as the perfect all around 338 bullet

So im just looking at Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, and Barns. Ive ruled the swift out just because there so hard to get and with there mixed accuracy reviews(all thought my 7-08 loves there 150's).

In the Hornady line up there are 2 im looking at.. the 185GMX and the 200 SST. I have a couple 225 SST here kicking around i will try all though im trying to keep recoil to a minimum.
In the Nosler line up im looking at... the 200gr Ballistic Silver tip, the 180 and 200gr Accubond and the 210 Partition.
In the Barns line up im looking at.... the 185 and 210 TTSX
and last but not least the 215 Sierra which im currently using.

Thanks again

The SST bullets have a thin jacket and while they will probably work on a moose there are much better choices. The 338 calibre Ballistic Tips are very tough with a very thick jacket and while both they and the SST have plastic tips that is where the comparison ends.

210 gr partitions or 210 gr Barnes TSX or TTSX which ever shoots best in your rifle. Another vote for IMR 4320 as THE powder.
