10/22 photos - post 'em up here!

Had great plans this weekend to finally assemble my 10/22 G36C. The Archangel chassis has been empty for a few years, but I finally got around to locating all the parts I needed. Except...the damn G36 chassis, which has been in the same place for 3 years, cannot be found. After several hours of looking for it and coming up empty, I was about to give up my plans. Except, I found my very first rifle stock, a 10/22 I got back in 1989. It was full of dents, but it got me thinking...

What if instead of a G36C, I made a wood stock SBR. I think I have enough parts laying around to build a budget shooter...

The gears started turning. Since its already going to be pretty light, what if I cut the stock and fit it for my daughter who has yet to fire a rifle? I sawed about 3" off the butt, and 3" off the forestock. A test fit:

Woops. Seems I cut a bit too much off...need to keep this NR

So I added some wood to the butt to make it just over the min legal length. The extension is some spare walnut hardwood flooring that I trimmed and sanded to fit. While I was at it, I sanded off the factory finish. I think I'll just go with some Tru Oil.

Added a small rail to the receiver, and a cheapy RDS, and, a small rail to mount a bi-pod. I'll probably screw in some sling swivels. Here's the mock up before it comes apart for wood finishing. A fun Victoria Day afternoon!

Was hauling some old cars out of the back 40 to clean up before fall, and a fellow fell in love with an old Plymouth that was there for a project he was working on, anyways offered me a 10/22 on trade, I said sure, and here it is. Had dozens and dozens of rifles before, but this is my first 10/22. He got what he needed and I got another plinker. Win win!

Just finished this build (for this year anyway). It was the dream to have a complete custom 10/22 and I am but 2 parts away on that. This will suffice me for this year.

Build List:
OEM Ruger receiver & bolt (for now)
Upgraded firing pin & extractor
Kidd 2 Stage Flat Blade "Salsa Trigger"
Kidd speed magazine release
Tandemcross Spartan charging handle
Tandemcross Doublecross clear dual mag body
Volquartsen Carbon Fiber THM Tension Barrel
Magpul X-22 stock with .25 cheek riser
Leupold STD mount with low 1" rings
Bushnell AR Optics 3-9x40 .223 BDC (with side parallax adj.)
Butler Creek MULTIFLEX flip-open scope cover (obj. one won't fit as the scope is so low to the barrel)
Magpul M-lok QD sling mount & Type 1 Sling mount kit
2 Quick Disconnect Sling swivels
USGI SLING (BLACK) from Mapleseed store
1.5" Mapleseed Sticker

The fine shops that made it happen:
Accuracy Plus
Al Flahertys Outdoor Store
CTCSupplies
CGN Classifieds
Dlask Arms
One Shot Tactical Supply
(my final order :( )
Project Mapleseed store
Red Deer Shooting Center

I hope to get a Tactical Solutions X-Ring receiver and bolt for it next year, and that is pretty much all I will change.

10yrs ago today I purchased this off the EE as a compact model. Really just testing out a different setup.

My Rock Island Armory M22.
Traded a scope for it with a shooting buddy a few months back. Wasn't super impressed with it at first, but I needed a .22 to fill the void and it was fine for just plinking. The iron sights on these things are hot garbage, so I finally got around to putting a scope and bipod I had laying around on it.
I will say I'm actually quite impressed with this thing now. Sure, the finish is all around brutal - but for a $189 gun it really holds its own. I've gone through 300 or so rounds myself, and my buddy put probably 500 through it before me. I've had 100% reliability with CCI mini-mags and Winchester Super X through the Butler Creek mag it came with. The only thing it doesn't like is the Remington Golden Bucket crap, but that's not saying much. Even with the poor quality scope and ancient rings, once dialed in it was decently accurate.
