I have been toying with the idea of building another custom short action hunting rig. Would want to build it on a CRF action, what would you guys pick as a good donor?
What CRF action to use as a donor?

K98 or Win M70 CRF.
Not sure why CRF is required, I owe my life to NOT having CRF when in Africa.

It's not required by any means I just like them. Does PH make a shot action, or are there 308's built on a long action?

The Parker Hale/ Midland? many more brands that came out of the UK in the late 50s early 60s were simply K98 actions that we sporterized and had better wood on them.
Not really a short action and not really a long action, sort of a nice inbetween. Many of the PH1200s and the like we built as 308, the advantage being you could seat your bullets out a little further.

Charged by lioness in an area that was supposed to be lion free in SA. "Knowing" there was nothing around to worry about strolled around the savanna with an empty chamber in my rifle. I literally dropped a round in the chamber and shot in a panic. There would not have been enough time to feed through the mag box as most CRF rifles require.
Hit her between the eyes, she landed 2 feet from me after bouncing off the Landcruiser. Would love to claim expert marksmanship but in reality it was 100% sh!thouse luck only.

I love the smoothness of the M70 but not a huge fan of their safety. I much prefer th M77 safety but find their actions a little rough.

Older CRFs usually wouldn't take a dropped into the action round without squeezing the blade extractor. Most (if not all?) the CRF rifles produced in the last few decades will take single rounds. It's definitley something you want to check on your rifle prior to needing to do it.

You the expert for sure but I've never had a CRF that didn't single load from the top. Only owned like 6 though???

Ya, most likely cheaper and easier to go factory and wake some changes. Who's really in this to save money though?!
What I want is a 20" medium to medium heavy 308 or maybe another 260, CDI bottom metal and a stock that has a steeper pistol grip, more like a McMillan A5 but slimmer and lighter.
