New to AR-15’s. What brand parts to buy for Maccabee build?

So many ar parts out there. What Brandon brands are really good for barrels and bolt assemblies?

Top brands, in terms of quality, reliability, and low likelihood of failures I recommend the following.

Noveske, Daniel Defense, BCM, Colt, Colt Canada.

Specifically, id recommend a Daniel Defense BCG because they're just as good as the other ones but can usually be found much easier. That being said, you'd probably get equal results out of something lower on the totom pole like DPMS, stag, spikes etc.

For barrel, that's gonna be the money maker, so don't cheap out. I presume you're going for Non Res with the MacDef receiver so that may pose a challenge finding something over 18.6 but if you can, I'd recommend a noveske barrel. Pricey, but highly regarded for their quality and accuracy. Second to that I believe BCM offers a 20" barrel but I can't be certain.

Another great option would be Faxon barrels. More cost effective but if you're shooting more "minute of bad guy" vs MOA, they're a great choice that won't break the bank.

budget will dictate where you look. also nature of the build... competition, accuracy, lightweight, "cheap" plinker... all factors.

This. This is the beauty of this type of rifle. The possibilities are endless, and so is the level of of money you can spend. Haha

You need to first identify the goal of your build, then address what kind of a budget you can afford. Or if its a "no defined limit", please at least define a goal of the rifle.

Lol this is not lookIng good. I want a a gun that I can use for varmints but also just plinking as well in 223 cal. Gophers are small targets but I wouldn’t be shooting gophers super often at all. Guess I want 1 moa or close atleast

Are you saying the Faxon barrel with the match grade chamber would not be sub MOA?

Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned I haven't been able to really test out my 14.5" faxon barrel so I can't say with confidence that they will shoot MOA or better.

where do you buy faxon barrels? I just ordered an odin 6.5 Grendel with bcg, gas block and tube for about 550$ before shipping and taxes

I bought mine from Tier One Armory in Edmonton.

You could always try international barrels too! They're a small, Canadian manufacturer who do 19" and 20" AR prefits that will almost certainly get you sub-MOA for $400!

To me for Varmint shooting, you would benefit from a carbon fiber or heavier profile barrel so groups dont open up as quick with consecutive shots. CF is expensive but weighs similar to the lighter profile barrels that are found on 3 gun/run 'n gun rifles. Heavy profile barrels are significantly cheaper than CF, but also weigh significantly more which is not attractive for a 3 gun/run 'n gun type of rifle.

Ya I’m not willing to spend that much on a carbon fibre barrel. I don’t mind weight and heavy profile is my favourite. Also like a heavy varmint tapered barrel! 20” would get a little more speeds. Think 20” is what I will opt for

Not sure I'd be buying anything for a gun (receiver) that no one has seen yet. Folks did that with the M+M and look where that went.

Not sure what you're smoking but the rifles exist, I've shot three separate builds. The receivers accept standard AR bits.
