Check out the massive mule deer taken somewhere in Alberta recently. Apparently some controversy about who this fantastic buck belongs to as it was shot in one location crossed a fence and the hunters were not granted permission to retrieve it. It was then finished off and/or tagged by an another group on the private land.
Not sure if that is exactly how it went down but anyhow I guess Alberta Fish & Wildlife is now looking into it. I hunt almost exclusively on public land and have never had an issue like this. I don't know if landowners in Alberta are obligated to let you(with permission of course) retrieve a dead/wounded animal from their land or not?
Anyhow, hopefully the proper owners get it back at the end of the day.

Not sure what the story is here, but it is unfortunate that there is a dispute over that monster buck.

Thats one hell of a buck for sure.
I read about a similar story a few months ago about another buck shot and then claimed by someone else.
Some people have no morals...so much so I often wonder how they got to the point in life they are.
Aside from the controversy it is/was an amazing buck.

A beautiful buck for sure. Seems like a cheap way to harvest an animal.
I would not be proudly getting my picture taken with someone else's animal, but what do I know.
It's just an opinion, & you know what they say about those.

I follow Alberta Hunting on Instagram and saw it there but details are sketchy to say the least.
I'm sure more details will come out in the coming weeks/months.

Comments with the story are pretty pathetic as well. So is that the original shooter or the claimant with the buck ?

Sounds like the original shooters shot it illegally on his land, they were asked if they wanted to get the game warden involved, they said no....2 days later the fellow in the photo shot it on his own property...at least according to the last two or is it the first two comments from the article...

He did not steel the buck. He has had deer illegally shot on his land before. When he asked if they wanted to get a game warden involved the hunters quickly said its just a deer jarod, Jarod gave them a fair chance to prove themselfs and the option to go the legal rout and they backed down. Dont be talking #### online about nothing you know. Seen the set in person, very impressive.

How about u shut up and get your story straight tough guy. The buck was supposedly shot on the otherside of his fence and jumped into his land. When Jarod (guy in the pic, very good friends with him) aas asked if they could go on his land to retrieve the buck Jarod asked if he could come with them to the spot the deer crossed so he could physically see the blood trail leading onto his land. They went and he walked 2 kilometres looking for the trail. No blood. He asked if they wanted to get a game warden involved the hunters said no (probably cause they shot it on jarods land illegally. This has happened before). Jarod found the deer 2 days later walking around in his coulee and put it down. Heard this DIRECTLY from Jarod and his hired hand.

Two days later and the buck is still mobile= no question the land owner is the only person that has a claim to it.

The only legal aspect the officers can be looking for is if the buck was truly shot at on the right side of the fence to begin with...if the original shooter was lying and actually shot at the buck while it was on land he didn't have permission on then he was hunting without permission and will be charged accordingly.

As for the "morality" of the farmer claiming the buck...you bet he has the right and is smart to do so, the syndication & replica mount sales potential of that animal is very substantial.

Yup, I know Jerrod, and actually hunt not to far away from his land. This version of the stories correct. Hell of a Mulie. Just about a mile away there was another big bastard taken that is a touch more symmetrical except a couple hanging tines. They think he will be around 200. Great place to hunt in that area. If I had a Mulie buck tag, I would have taken a 180+ south of here. Seen a few out there.
 
a few years ago, up by spray lakes above canmore, my buddy and I saw the biggest mule deer of my life when we were driving around. I had no idea they could get that large but I would guess in the 400 lbs range, it was SERIOUSLY thick. The muscles rippled under its fur and it had no problem just hoofing it up the side of a mountain.
