Hunter killed by wild boar

Down south they do not have the same boars as in Europ/ Eastern Asia. Those boars are a hell lot bigger and nastier, i have seen one hunging al cleaned weighing in just over 200kg. A boar that size is feared by bears too.

Quoted for truth, feral pigs in texas are not central or eastern european wild boars.

I'm going to play ignorance and not actually read the article, but something tells me a properly applied tourniquet could have saved this guys life.

And with my ignorance, I'll say it again, CARRY A F**KING tourniquet.

I agree with you,
but I have seen a femoral artery damage so high, torn and ragged that no tourniquet would have worked.
Something like an IT clamp might have.

They are saying a feral pig’s vitals are lower and more forward than those of a whitetail deer so a shot placed behind the shoulder will be a gut shot.

"Spine shot -

The spine shot is my personal preference when hog hunting.

Heart/lung shot -

RESULTS – Animal will run off the majority of the time, often without showing ANY sign of being hit."

We hunt them every year down in southern Georgia. At night when they come out to feed and root the crop fields is the best way to hunt them as they come out in higher numbers. They are seriously tough bastards, make no mistake. We have found through experience that unless you spine/neck/head shoot them they will run far, get into the scrub and woods and you will never find them.

Smaller caliber (5.56) bullets don't do much damage to the thick bone shoulder plate that protects the vitals. 7.62 AR-10 platforms with Gen 3+ night vision is the way to go. The big sow was 398 lbs.

Was visiting with a friend who went hunting them in Ozzieland.
Drink til the wee hours, drive a Sport-ute with a shell full of hounds, turn loose the dogs and after the dogs get them pinned, stick 'em with a knife... that's ballsy, lol
And I doubt they taste that great; think it's like Mutton, need to know how to get rid of the gamey-ness.

These critters are terrifying, they run fast and scream like banshee's as they charge.
I was bow hunting once, missed my mark and got charged by the boar. luckily I'm pretty nimble so I managed to jump up and grab onto a low tree branch.
Nothing gets the heart going like being chased by angry animals. ¯\_( ◉ 3 ◉ )_/¯
It's a shame what happened to this fellow. However, guess you gotta give a few victories to the prey every once in a while.

Height wise the boars tusks would be lined up with the femoral artery on the inside of the leg on a human. A ripped out femoral artery would require very prompt first aide indeed !

Good reason for carrying some thing like the israeli bandage and knowing how to use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNR8rRFgwNk

there are accident in Europe every year and sometimes you are alone ... some still do not get why i loved my 9.3x62 while hunting them ....

Hey, he's a German and they know EVERTHING. :) On top of that, you have to check their pigs for radioactivity, before consuming and hunters can sell the meat they harvest.

Grizz

In '88 I was on a big NATO exercise in Germany. We were specifically told to abandon our trenches, OP's if there were boars nearby. It happened to me a couple times, where they got to close and we had to bail out, they were massive.

A waste of a human life. His family and friends are probably wishing he had been hunting deer.

We will never actaully know, but perhaps the unlucky fellow was a gentleman desiring an adrenaline rush for his very own personal satisfaction.
Some people really like to hunt, what can actually hunt them too.

A gentle nod, downward glance of respect and a tipping of hat off to the man.

Cheers

Sent the article to a good friend of mine in Germany and he pointed out that these little monsters are seldom predictable. He reminded me of a well placed heart lung shot that he took with a Mauser some years back. The boar managed to run an additional 150 meters before expiring. That was at full speed going through the brush! This hunter would have had the requisite firearm and training for this hunt. They have automated boar shooting rangers in that part of Bavaria which people are mandated to use if they are going boar hunting. Sad that these things happen.... be it out hunting wild boar or taking the dogs for a walk .

Hog Man Quote;

"You can see in the illustration (bottom photo) that the heart and lungs are just above the shoulder. Experienced deer hunters might go for a lung shot and end up hitting nothing but gut on a feral hog. Not good."

I question his wording... heart and lungs "ABOVE" the shoulder... (bottom photo)

The this diagram is from a hog bowhunting website;
