22 wmr to 22 hornet

I’m looking for a small 22 hornet and a project. Is there any 22wmr action that’s strong enough to be rechambered to the hornet. I know the firing pin/extractor would have to modified as well.

look for a 22 Martini, several have been chambered in the 22 Hornet or 22 K Hornet, the action will have no problem handling the pressure.

But I am not sure how easy it would be to convert one from rimfire to centre fire. How about a T/C Contender or Encore?

Take a look at the 5mm Remington bolt action gun, 6 (or 9?) rear locking lugs, looks like a mini version of the 788, non-rotating front half of the bolt. The receiver will need to be threaded, but the information you need can be got, or you can figure it out yourself.

Downside is that some guys think they should be worth a lot as 'collectible' guns. They stopped making 5mm rimfire for many many years, IIRC Aquila has started to again, if you can find the stuff.

Anyways, an option worth looking at.

I've heard the Remington 581/541 action has been converted to small center fire cartridges as it has some lugs.
Personally I would look for Martini or other solid single shot. Rolling block or low wall etc.

It is the 541/581 rimfire action that was the basis for the 5mm Remington referenced above. Although the 5mm rem suggestion also advised threading the barrel/action tenon... probably not a bad idea but in fact the Anschutz '54' action rifles in .22 Hornet and .222 Rem do not have a threaded action/barrel tenon and employ cross pins instead. Plus a pretty tight union...which apparently certainly doesnt hurt their accuracy!!

Yep, them's the ones.

Supposedly the actions were proofed to pressures well above what a sane person would want near their face. I'll leave you to do your own homework. But press fits and cross pins seems, well, crude.

i sleeved a 22 magnum barrel, rechambered to 22 hornet into a 20 gauge break action shotgun. Modded the extractor and installed some iron sights. the rifle shot well enough that i installed scope mounts and then a scope and eventually built a thumbhole stock. fun to shoot.
