I’m looking for a small 22 hornet and a project. Is there any 22wmr action that’s strong enough to be rechambered to the hornet. I know the firing pin/extractor would have to modified as well.
It is the 541/581 rimfire action that was the basis for the 5mm Remington referenced above. Although the 5mm rem suggestion also advised threading the barrel/action tenon... probably not a bad idea but in fact the Anschutz '54' action rifles in .22 Hornet and .222 Rem do not have a threaded action/barrel tenon and employ cross pins instead. Plus a pretty tight union...which apparently certainly doesnt hurt their accuracy!!I've heard the Remington 581/541 action has been converted to small center fire cartridges as it has some lugs.
Personally I would look for Martini or other solid single shot. Rolling block or low wall etc.
