Popped a Deer This Morning, Arrowed Another Yesterday Afternoon

Well I had 7 does under my apple tree for 1/2 hr this A.M. but I was feeling lazy so I didn't stick one..........maybe I'll feel more up to it tomorrow morning......They are there every day so I have until Dec 20.

Well the does vacated the property for a few days......I think they have my house bugged or maybe one is on CGN..........anyway they couldn't resist the allure anymore and I saw them coming from the far side of my pasture. I got myself into my hay shed with the door open and waited. Sure enough, they took their time but finally showed up under the tree. Only two at first but one was the doe I had selected before. She was real dark and about as big as they get around this area.
I carefully got to full draw and placed the pin low behind the front leg and realized that the other does head was right in line behind my doe......so I waited. When the back doe popped her head up I let fly and completely blew the shot.....hitting my doe in the flank and guts. Pin looked good so I either yanked my shot, gripped my bow or hit my jacket sleeve, regardless she bolted but was grievously injured, I could tell by the way she ran. She went across my drive and around the trailers and into a little swamp by the back road. I went out between my trailers and could see her standing at about 30-40 mtrs broadside. My second arrow was absolutely perfect and she was down within another 40 mtrs..........now she's hanging in my shop and I'm all tagged out.
No pics because she's just a doe and by the time I got everything sorted out and loaded her in the back of the Ranger the light was getting pretty low and I still wanted to gut her.

Never seems to fail, does it? We make perfect kill shots under difficult conditions, in poor visibility, with miserable weather, rushed for time, from uncomfortable positions, perhaps while half-frozen and bone-tired...and then, when you have things about as perfect as possible, this happens. Bummer. If there's a lesson to be learned, it would have to "s&%t happens..."

Anyways, congrats on getting it all sorted out. Could have been much worse.

I got my little 2x3 muley with the crossbow the other day while standing in my downstairs computer room. I just slid the patio door open a foot and waited for him to pass the opening. A quick grunt stopped him perfectly. He was bothering my does, one even had a stand up scrap with him, so I figured they were done with him and into the freezer he goes. He will be good eats. I also got 2 coyotes that came into the gut pile shooting from the sundeck. Win-Win for the does and I, not so much for them, lol.

Nope 'Looky I was out fixing fences and unloading horse feed when I saw them out across my pasture making their way towards the yard. So needless to say I had my regular working shoes on.........no slippers. But I was wearing my old working cowboy hat as usual........

For those who care about these things.........I shoot a Mathews Black Max II with Carbon Express 300s @ 29" and 125 gn Wasp Jackhammer mechanicals. Total arrow weight of 355 gns at a speed of 352 fps. I use a single pin sight in a mount I made, a whisker biscuit rest and an ultra nock draw loop with a Cobra release.

That's a sweet setup, and it obviously did the job. Congratulations, that's a nice way to end a season!

Several years ago now my son shot this bear with his bow in the front yard.....flannel jammy pants and holy soles was the hunting attire of choice! The wily 11 yr old artfully used my boat, my shop, and the lawn tractor as cover for the epic stalk....shot him as he was inspecting one of my 3D targets!!
