I read the For Sale adds everyday, just browsing cause you never know when that OMG I GOTTA HAVE THAT gun will appear.

My question is this, how do you own a gun and never shoot it or take it out to the range? I see so many adds that say this. Is it a value thing
or just maybe not happy with the feel? Or?

My problem is that these things are like potato chips and I can't have just one but I take and shoot them all every trip to the range,
granted I only have 3 now but I think I will need a bigger gun case for 2018.
 
Impulse buy or people have so many guns that alot of them sit on the bench and never get used. If I have a gun that I've never fired and am selling it's because I got it for so cheap that I'm just flipping it.
 
I have a mint walther ppk that has had less than 1/2 box thru it in the 35 years I've owned it. I also have an ar15 that I shoot maybe 100 rds/yr. in it. I keep them both because while I like them, they aren't really what floats my boat, and if I sell them I know I will never buy another one. Maybe some day, but I don't need the money, and every once in a while I see them in the safe and toss them in the range bag just for the helluvit. My father owned 50+ WWII handguns including at least 6 lugers, and he never belonged to a range and didn't want to go if I offered to take him. I'll bet he never fired more than a dozen rounds out of a pistol in his entire life.
 
When I started shooting I had no one who brought me into the sport. I got my PAL and joined a local club, but worked afternoons so really only shot over night, when there were no other shooters to meet or compare guns with. Going to a store to handle whatever they have in stock, then hitting another store to handle some others. I quickly realized I was spending allot on gas getting all over southern Ontario to try a decent selection each time I was buying a gun, and not being able to shoot, or always compare to another which is not in stock. Also factor in that once deciding on which to buy, the store that has it in stock maybe be 20% higher priced than many of the larger firearm retailers and online dealers. I decided that buying 2 or 3 of the best contenders for the next gun I want, then selling off the ones I don't want was not a major financial loss after all the surplus is sold. It also allows a better direct handling comparison, and a shooting comparison, and for as long as I want to keep them. It has happened that once getting them together, I realized one of them was not wanted without ever shooting it, so just sold it such.

I also bought a Glock19 Gen3, about a week later they released the Gen4 in FDE so I bought one of those too. I sold the Gen3 unfired.
 
The only gun I have had for the last 25 years that I do not shoot is a Rossi 7 shot 22lr.
It does not work properly, but does a nice job of keeping me in the 12(6) class.
 
I had guns like that before. Impulsive buying and never got to shoot it or fired a box thru it to find out I didnt like it. Now I only own firearms that see regular usage
 
My excuse is that I need a back up for my back up. I see something I like and it is on sale, I am all over it. Problem is when you go over a certain number, it becomes physically impossible to really break any one in properly. My number was 135 and now that I am creeping towards 200, I fear some of my bnib will never be shot. Guess that is where the kids and grand kids come in.
 
I bought a revolver in 44mag because I had the ammo sitting in safe..., now a year later..., never had the time to shoot it... :)
 
Its easy if you buy 5 or 6 at a time. 25 or 30 a year and maybe sell 1 a year. I now count guns by the dozen,sounds better. Working on 13. Once you get the first model you have to get the other models. Do I shoot them , yes. 42 die sets currently in use. 94 bullet moulds in use. Last year I used up over 500lbs of lead for my own use and over 300 cast for others. About 8 guns here I haven't fired. Reasons,no dies,no brass or no bullets. I will find a way to shot them some day.
 
I live in the middle of nowhere so my only really opportunity to handle yet alone fire a different gun is if I buy it and ship it to me. Sometimes when it gets here it's not like what I thought I saw in the pictures or the grip doesn't fit my hand, etc. Sometimes I like what I receive but life is such that I haven't had the chance to even shoot it yet when the next OMG gotta have THAT gun comes up on the EE and I think to myself "I haven't even fired that one yet so I should sell it to afford / make room for the shiny new thing" and the cycle continues ad nauseum.
 
Have a Glock 17RTF that’s probably 8 - 9 years old and only shot about 300 rounds. I’m keeping this example of the perfect pistol as mint as possible hoping to sell it in future for my retirement nest egg.

Truth is, I don’t like shooting the Glock because its grip angle is too unlike the 1911. And it’s ugly, imo. I hope Gaston Glock never designs a car. I will likely never shoot it much or sell it.

Now a buddy let me shoot his FNS9L. This is a polymer pistol a 1911 guy can relate to. It’s looks and ergos are the closest polymer pistol to the 1911 I’ve seen. Loved it so much I bought it and another one for a spare, which will only visit the range once a year or two for function test only. Got a couple of FNS40s cos that’s the perfect pistol round, imo. One of these 40s will remain largely unfired.

I also have duplicates for my other “favourite” guns as well.

So yeah, everyone’s got different reasons for owning yet not shooting their guns.

Come back and tell us how you shoot every one regularly when you have 40-50 of them. Some are collectors, some just get lost in the shuffle and never used. It seems weird but it does happen.
