.375 H&H Reloading, Sierra vs Woodleigh

Eureka!

Kinda...

The culprit? Recoil Torque, the rifle version. I set up a new ladder, this time using a Lead Sled. I noticed the rifle was hitting my jaw pretty hard. I removed the cheek piece to let the rifle twist freely in the sled. The result? .344 MOA at 78.5 grains and .581 MOA at 79.5 grains. The rifle would twist a hard 45 degrees counter clockwise during firing. Allowing the rifle to twist without hitting me in the jaw eliminated most of the vertical spread and flyers I was seeing.

At 78.5 grains, the point of impact was about the same than 78 and 79 grains, decent for OCW, so I'll be working on this node for now. Still getting used to this setup but things look promising.

Also, since hunting season is now over, the range is now covered in deer tracks...

Plenty good to 300 yards and for KILLING big animals ! jmo RJ

Cool rig. Don't see too many 375 H&H's with an adjustable cheek piece, never mind a rail and a nightforce...
Great shooter!

Thank you! With this build, I wanted a modern design with a classic cartridge, which I have achieved. I also wanted versatility, which is why I'm using a McGowen barrel with Remage conversion. I will likely get a second barrel for longer range later on, 7mm RM or RUM comes to mind.

How is the accuracy shooting off hand?

Invariably related to my marksmanship skills! That being said, this rifle is a dream to shoot off hand. Muzzle rise is almost non existent, it recoils straight back off hand, none of that jaw rattling twisting motion. It's heavy at 10.5 pounds all dressed, perfect weight for a .375 H&H. The adjustable cheek piece added weight to the rear, allowing for a perfect balance point just ahead of the magwell. This is how I like my rifles balanced. The barrel is a 24" Sendero profile, it could have used a slightly lighter profile.

How far this rifle will reach in the field will depend on my ability and willingness to shoot it prone. I might invest in good shooting sticks too.

Once I got my .375 to group around 1" off the bench then my real objective is to keep off hand shots within a 6" diameter target at 100 and 200 meters.
