Hi folks,

I recently purchased a Llama 1911 ix-a 9mm from a gun store.

The gun was advertised as in good and working condition but when I took it to the range it would jam every second or third round.

Eventually came to a consensus that it was the magazine I received with the firearm that was so beat up it would wobble up the next round.

Went home and stored it. Eventually when I went to clean it I noticed the extractor on the slide was missing. The pin came loose. I found the pin but not the extractor. I found a website in the US that has them in stock.

I want to fix this pistol as I like it. What is the best way to go about this?

Should I:

• order the part from the US site and take it to a gunsmith for fitting?
• take it directly to a gunsmith and have them fabricate or order what is required?

I found another website in Canada that recommended Tripps Cobra 1911 9mm mags and said they would fit.

Additionally, anyone know of a gunsmith in the Greater Toronto or Surrounding Area they'd recommend for this undertaking?

Finally, am I overlooking something?

Thank you for reading...

Good evening,
1) You said you found a source in US....do they ship to Canada ?
2) fabricate a new part ? will cost you a lot.
3) I use Cobra mags....no issues at all.
4) I would go to a gunsmith with all above and discuss options with him; other colleagues will probably chime in with recommendations of good gunsmiths in your area.

Thank you very much for your response DanRR.

Yes, the site I found (Numrich) ships to Canada.

The only part I cannot find is the extractor spring. I'm going to go ahead and order the extractor with the hope of taking it to a gunsmith to fix.

I'll wait for opinions. I have found a few online but opinions/reviews are scarce.

Why not,of course you can.

Make sure Magazine is empty.

Pull slide back and hand drop on shell in the chamber.

Fire Gun, slide will stay open.

Take a short cleaning Rod and nock the empty casing out.

Repeat process and have fun.

Cheers

Oh wow I could never do it but it's good to know how it can be done and its importance.

Thank you

My IX-A 45 was a hopeless case when it was given to me.
Everything was badly adjusted by a previous owner. Worked out the the main spring so hammer, grip safety and sear worked properly.
When it come to firing it was problematic for nose diving FMJ's into the feed ramp and failure to extract the brass.
Worked on feed ramp and throat polishing, not much help.
Worked on the feed lips which help a bit but still problems would come up. Replaced the extractor from Numrich and also bought a Triple k Mag for it.
I made a Extractor pin from a drill bit since Numrich had none left. Extractor was not drilled for it's retaining pin so I had to do that myself with the old was as a template. Still had the same problem. Turns out I did not drill a large enough hole for the pin since I found it binding up once every 1 or 2 mags.

Finally getting to be reliable. Triple K mag needed a lot of work to fit into my mag well and grip panels.
Once extractor moved easily I could tune the mags so the cartridge rims where held by the extractor as they left the magazine getting rid of the Fail to feed and fail to eject problems. I also realized I have to pull back the slide ALL the way back before releasing it to load a round. Using slide release causes nose dives into the ramp.

How is yours coming along?
