Just got a CQA in trade and might want to paint it. The Serial number is embossed and would definitely be covered/disappear.

What does everyone else do? Ive noticed the same labelling labelling with other Norc rifles (and pistols)

f you lightly & evenly spray the engraved areas, they should transfer through the paint and still be legible. If you lay it on thick, they will kinda transfer through but might not be legible.

I was thinking about getting a number punch set and punching it myself. Is that legit?

A CGNer contacted the CFO about relocating the serial number of his shotgun a little while back and he was told it was okay to do so BUT he was told to take pics of the orig and new before doing any work that could result in damaging the original serial no. I guess you could always punch deeper numbers above or below the original and if you ever get questioned, you could remove the paint to expose the original serial if it did get covered over by paint. Might be tough finding the same punch size and font of the stock engravings and trying to imprint over the existing will probably come out looks like crap if legible.

I suggest confirming with your CFO if you indeed intend on marking over the existing serial markings.

why bother putting lipstick on a pig?

I have had Norc AR's that shoot just as well as countless US made AR's, and looked great too, especially for the value.
But alas, we can't all be rich elitists like you Mr. Deer, so please give the humble little guys a chance.

All the power to you OP, do what you like and ##### the haters.

I agree with Tarrantula

I had a Norc CQT as my first AR. Its long gone, but when i had it, it was problem free. Its still in my friends possession and has not had any issues with thousands of rounds thru it.

Now as far as painting goes, mask it off to save on the headaches and extra work
