Update: I am looking for a .308 Pmag or AR10 mag in Ottawa to borrow. Feb 07

Hello CGNer's of the Ottawa area, I am putting out this request for some help in the hopes of making headway in few projects.

A bit about me:

I am an avid firearms owner, that also has ad interest in CAD, and 3d printing. I have some experience in CNC machining, and CAM software as well. To top it all off, I even play around with electronics, and sewing.... I like making things for myself.
All of this is hobby level for me, and I am almost entirely self taught. You can see a few of my projects here:

Little Badger
AR-7
Laser target
Sewing Projects
Rifle case

I need to borrow a few parts (All to be returned of course) to measure, and model in 3d CAD. I am currently in development of a few prototypes.
What I am looking for:
1x AK47 Magazine
Steel - Offered By GunCrazy762
magpul

Type 81 Magazine

1x CZ858 Magazine
Steel - Offered by Norlandgeese
Polymer - Offered by Norlandgeese

1x Scorpion evo3 magazine (factory) or:
1x NR scorpion evo3 (owner would be invited to have a few beers and offer input on the project)

I may update with more items as projects progress.


If anyone in the Ottawa area want to help me out with any of these Items I would greatly appreciate it.

I wish I could help but I'm not in Ottawa but I visit there sometime, not along drive and we can always meet half way.

I have CZ 858 MAGAZINES, NR Scorpion evo3 and magazines, Does type 81 magazines count as AK 47 magazines ?

I can help with cz858 mag, I will get it back in one piece right? :) We’ve met and traded before.

Are the Type 81 mags the same? I don't know.... but I could use one of those too.

If you are in Ottawa I would be glad to take a look. Buy I would likely need to borrow the equipment for a day or two (for the mags, the evo3 is a bigger project and would require me to spend more time)

Ideally I would like to keep it local so I can drop stuff off (or if the owner wants free beer, they are welcome to come to my place to see what's going on).

Thank you for the offer though. If nobody local has an evo3 they want to lend me I will be in touch.

Sure I have both the Czech steel ones and the polymer ones, you can borrow whichever or both. Let’s text and meet up after work one day like we did before.
 
Do you need a full size mag to measure the curvature? I have a short 5rd AK mag if you want to measure that. Would love to swap some stories since it looks like our interests are in the same plane: CAD etc (I use SW2016) and leatherwork (I started out fixing tack and harness which grew into other projects) here.

If I knew what you were looking for I could try to get you a quick and dirty model which you can continue with...

I can get what I need off the short mag, but I already have an offer on the long mag if it works out.

If you are in Ottawa, (I see Ottawa valley in you profile) you are more than welcome to come by. I am SW2016 as well.
let me know, as perhaps we could get together to talk over some ideas and maybe learn from each other.
 
I may have STL files for AK mags already, I'll check today and let you know.

I would suggest if you are measuring mags to measure more than one. In fact measure a lot of them. And from different manufacturers if possible. They will all be slightly different. Would hate for you design of make a rifle that only works with one magazine.
 
Hey buddy, let me know if you still need some help. I've got vz58 and cz858 mags as well as 30 and 40 rounder steel ak mags. Not near you, but happy to ship.

Thank you everyone, I have number of offers so far.

I will use the few that are local to get me started, and I will update the OP to reflect what I have and who it belongs to (so I can keep it straight)

I will try to get different manufactured mags (starting with the most common/popular)

Than you all.
 
Still looking for the Evo3 (I have a nearby offer, but in town would be preferred so we could check the fit of prototypes easier and more often.)

I am also still looking for polymer AK mags, Magpul specifically would be Ideal.

I have many guns to play around, I don't mind to leave the Scorpion to you for a like a few months as long as I'm the one who is getting the first product for that scorpion, like the very first once you finalize the designed. (I will buy in full price of course). I love every inches of Scorpion but be able to share the same magazines as my Glock would be a big plus.
