Shooting a doe with 50bmg

I think a head shot or even a double lung shot would do minor damage to the meat. The head or the rib cage and lungs offer very little resistance to such a heavy and toughly constructed bullet.

Consider this: a 750gr bullet has about 12000fpe at 2700fps. Now if passing through the rib cage and lungs decelerates the bullet to say 2400fps, it would still be carrying about 9000fpe. Which means it delivered the difference of 3000 fpe to the deer while making a half inch hole. Now consider that a 300winmag pushing a 150gr bullet at 2900fps also has about 3000fpe... and the softer bullet will expand and make a hole about half an inch. With good shot placement, the two cartridges aren’t that far off in what they’re capable of delivering to the deer.

Now that said, I’m not endorsing the cartridge choice. If you pull your shot and it goes through the shoulder or back through the hind quarters, there’s going to be a lot more deceleration for that bullet, and a lot more energy will be dumped into the meat, leaving very little for Sunday dinner methinks. As has been said on here a million times, shot placement is EVERYTHING. And it becomes extra important when shooting too small a caliber, AND too big a caliber.

That’s my $0.02 anyway.

If both eyes are missing from the deers head,.. that is where the bullet went,.. in one eye and out the other,.. the deers head was perfectly side on when he fired. IMO this could not be more obvious. A bullet passing close by creating enough vacuum to suck the eyeballs out of a deer is a ridiculous statement.

In the video the guy stated that he completely missed the animal. So let me get this straight, a sniper in Afghanistan is shooting goats and it looks like this, and you think that he hit that doe?

You know what, I'm completely on board that if you want to use a 300 win mag to hunt deer all the power to you. A 3000 fpe is a lot considering the animal you are hunting however I can see the appeal. What if the animal is 400 yards out, by the time the bullet arrives it would only have 1800fpe let's just say. But a round that was designed for the military to be used on vehicles, some soft skin tanks and it's main purpose being used in a mounted machine gun for hunting, you shouldn't be using that on a deer. And you think a rounds that has 12000fpe is ok to use on a deer? And you call it humane? Thats disgusting.

That video has been around for years and is actually gophers getting shot with a .223 or similar.

Here is what 50bmg shot animals actually look like

You understand it’s not delivering 12000 fpe into the deer, right? And do you know what “humane” means?

He knows he hit the deer. But that video would be a mediocre success. One way to make a video blow up on youtube is to have lots of controversy. Notice him say multiple times that he'd like people to comment? 10 days and closing in on a million views. Thats money right there. Like in the media, the truth is of secondary importance. What he really wants to do is get lots of views. I might even go so far as to say the deer was shot with a 223 or something, and this was a total set up. Maybe not but the lack transparency is usually a dead give away.

THe video is complete BS..... “sucked the eyes out”...... really?.....

Personally, I would rather see a guy take a deer with a 50 BMG than some ###### that felt he needed to use a 22 hornet to be cool.....

sucked her eyes out of her head. Wow. Only thing I can even think of to say is you can't fix stupid. I guess if you're a bad shot, just get yourself a 50 bmg. All you have to do is shoot in the animals general direction, and the concussion alone will kill it. Lol.
