Had nearly all the plastic guns (minus the M&P) the PPQ is the most accurate. Say what you want about the grip or height....the paper doesn't lie....very, very accurate. Almost as accurate as my X5's with match ammo.

That's what I also found. I was shooting 147 FMJ Winchester law enforcement and it was one ragged hole. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. Also I didn't really notice it having more muzzle flip when firing compared to other pistols. Either way, I ended up buying a 5" M2 a few months ago as well. I will eventually also buy a M2 Navy to go with my M1. Yes I like these pistols that much. More importantly I like the results.

The M&P is well made, handles nicely and fits great. But.. the trigger isn't very good and the accuracy is fairly mediocre, especially after shooting the PPQ.

Accurate, yes, but "grip or height" cannot be ignored. Is it as accurate as a Glock when run full speed? Maybe for some, maybe not for others. For me I don't like how high it sit. Too much mass way too high for my liking but to each their own.

I have not seen much evidence the Glock is much of a target pistol. With the factory sights it will do the job no better than the M&P or XT. The Walther is more accurate than my M&P and the equal of my CZ's/Tanfanglios off a bench. The trigger reset is very short and there is no reason a shooter should not be able to enjoy faster splits with the gun. One thing I just discovered by accident is how easy it is to change the PPQ M2 5" sights. Less than five minutes for both the front and rear. I know of no other gun with that feature though they must be out there.

You either like the gun or not that is one advantage we have civilians have a choice of guns to choose from. We don;t have to shoot what our employer buys. So far I have been favourably impressed by the accuracy, build quality, short reset, the ease of replacing sights if desired, the position of the slide release and overall trigger offered by the Walther. They do make the Glock and M&P line look dated. The biggest downside is the price of their mags. Fortunately the Match comes with 3 and with the M2 5" arriving tomorrow I'll have five to play with.

One thing I just discovered by accident is how easy it is to change the PPQ M2 5" sights. Less than five minutes for both the front and rear. I know of no other gun with that feature though they must be out there.

The front sight on my M2 was a PITA to change, IIRC. I also have the 5" version which I haven't had the time to swap out the sights yet, so did they change something?

I have the PPQ M2 Navy, which I got from IRG.

You can't tell by photos online, but you really have to see it in person to see how great the build quality is.

In staged manufacturer photos, even a Ruger SR9 can look great, but if you see all the guns in the category lined up, you'll really see the differences (Sig, Glock, H&K, Springfield, etc).

H&K is the only other one that looks as high quality as the Walther, which is understandable because they come from the same factories.

As far as performance, to my knowledge the Walther PPQ has won just about every comparison review that it has been part of for the last couple years since it came out.

Almost every gun in this category is 100% reliable now, so it comes down to accuracy, comfort, and trigger quality. In all of these things the Walther PPQ kicks butt.

Go hold one in a store and you'll see how much better it is than other things out there. I'm not saying this because I have one, I'm saying this because I compared everything objectively and chose Walther because it was the best.

Just remember that if you don't see "M2", you may be getting the M1 which has the European-style paddle flipper magazine release and not the thumb button style of the M2.

The front sight is held on by an Allen screw. Undo it and the sight comes off. Put the new sight on, screw in the Allen screw and you are done. The rear sight comes off by depressing a clip. Depress it the sight slides off. Slide the new sight on past the clip and you are done. Five minutes max!

DJsamphard the trigger group is the same for all four models of the gun ie the Q5 Match, the M2 5", the Navy and the Standard. Walther advertises the trigger pull at the exact same weight. The Match trigger is Blue while the others are Black. The techy at Walther USA told me the Match sear is coated with some esoteric secret snake oil but he confessed he could not tell the difference in trigger pulls. I will know later this morning when my M2 5" arrives. I am satisfied I won'r be able to tell the difference shooting the gun during a match.

I must have remembered another polymer I changed the sights on, because your post jogged my memory. Yes, you are quite correct: a single allen screw on/off

Otherwise like others have said it's very accurate.

I did have some trouble with my M1 Navy in that I would occasionally have a failure to battery. This may be due to a very tough recoil spring as it does not occur with 147 gr ammo or hot 124 gr ammo. I had similar troubles with the first 500 rounds I shot through my HK p2000.

I've really enjoyed my PPQ and prefer it over my cz75b for 3-gun at the moment. I have experienced a few instances of failure to battery using factory reloads and after reading these threads, I may try 147gr as I've been using 115 and 124 I believe. I'm only now pushing 1000 rounds, so 3 or 4 times out of 1000 didn't seem to be an issue but was annoying. I also now have the PPQ 22 to train with as it fits the same holster.

You are kind of comparing apples and oranges. If you want to compare Compacts Walther makes several including a 4" PPQ. The Navy should be close. The M&P 2C is the same size as the G 19 from what I can see. I asked S&W Marketing rep if S&W would sell the M&P Compact frame with a 4.25"FS slide. It would be less than 1/4" shorter in OAL of the G19, be legal and not have the pimple barrel.

DJsamphard I just got my M2 5". The trigger pull is the same weight, with the same reset of the Match. First impression it may not be quite as smooth but I know I would never notice shooting it in a match. I intend to use the gun in SSP Division playing IDPA. The build quality is the same. I might swap front sights since I won't be using the front FO on the Match. I will try orange fluorescent paint first. I find it works just as well as the FO sights do fir my eyes,

Added: I just did a trigger pull test on both pistols and the pull is identical 5lbs 6oz using my RCBS trigger pull gauge. The Q 5 Match has 60rds on it and the M2 5" 150.

I put a Vortex Viper 6MOA Optic on it. The Optic sits a lot lower on the gun than it sat on my CZ New Edition using a dovetail mount. Much easier to bring the gun up and see the dot right there, I probably won;t get out to the range until Match/April to shoot center fire pistol right handed. A lot depends on how quickly the shoulder heals. Bob J. and I may be out with our .22/38spl revolvers. I can always load and shoot them left handed. We are two cheap old bastards. Chasing brass in the snow is no fun. LOL

The Vortex, from experience and from what I have read are pretty sturdy pieces of kit. The Burris 111 also has a pretty good reputation. Are you thinking of mounting an Optic or just improved irons?

I tried the Viper but I was actually slower with the red dot so I went back to irons. Just thinking of an upgrade. Was it the M2 that you upgraded the sights on and if so, what did you get? Is it the same sight set-up as the Q5?

No I just got the gun this morning. My comments above were made on the basis of watching a video I stumbled on to. I could not believe how easy it is to change the sights ont M2 5" and the front sight of the Match. I am not sure what is involved in changing the rear sight of the Match, I think the Match has real value IF you are going to mount an Optic. If not I see no dfference between it and the M2 5" except the $400 price difference. As I found out this afternoon the trigger pull weights on both guns are identical as is the reset. I just blacked out the rear white dots on the M2 and painted the front sight fluorescent orange. We shall see how that works out. The dot on the front sight is smaller than the dot on my Beretta M9A1 Compact so it may not be as visual as the front sight on the Beretta. We will see in tthe spring how it works out.

I think you have to put your time in on an optic. I know right now I am faster with the irons but that might change with some practice using the optic. Any idea that folks have that suggests just placing an optic on your favourite blaster turns it into a ray gun is misplaced. I have the time to work on it and will.
