Like to step into the AR world, the more owners the better is my warped logic. Maybe not the soundest thinking but what the Hell.... Total newb with this platform and would like to purchase a complete unit to see how it ticks before attempting to build one.

One of my real "wants" for this rig is to have it in the classical M16 Vietnam styling but that doesn't seem very popular. Canada Ammo has their little D.A. but I'm thinking a little more as a pass it on heirloom firearm. Any pointers are greatly appreciated......

Fairly dangerous combination of a major snowstorm, site shutdown for the Christmas break, well stocked liquor cabinet and to lazy to take on any chores today... ;)

Merry Christmas,
Dirk

I think you mean like M16 styling.

Find something with a 1 to 9 twist barrel as the 55 grain and higher ammo is easier to stabilize.

Something like a Bushmaster Xm-15 standard target model.

just buy the cheapest one you can. in a year you will have enough parts to build a second anyways.

AR's are like girl friends. the first gets you so hard, and soon you realize there is another that is even better and more suited to what you like/need. 5 AR's later you are married and find yourself cheating with another anyways.

If you want after a classic AR15, scour the EE for an original Colt SP1. I've got one from 1967 that came from my dad, as "heirloom" as they come.

Yes, subliminal typing as I was looking at a Boyds stocks for my Norc 305... What is the difference with the A2/A3 models? Thought it was the flashhider but the both have the A2 on the muzzle....

LMAO!!! True, had to sort thru a few myself to find the right balance of crazy vs hot....

OOOOOOHHHH....... Thats what I'm talking about!!! All parts still interchangeable for rebuilds? That is spot on, congrats on yours.....

The norinco ar might be the style your looking for and it's fairly cheap to boot

Maybe, the look is there but I own a couple Norcs and while perfectly serviceable I'm thinking less units of better quality. Might be a fun sh*t and abuse gun to learn on tho!

With the exception of the upper and lower, they use a large front pin (Colt did this specifically to differentiate between their M16 and civilian AR15).

I’ll second the SP1. Nothing closer than the original civilian AR15. Prices are not unreasonable unless you have a particularly early example.

Another option is to build your own. Nodal Spud and Brownells both make retro uppers and lowers. Green Mountain and Brownell’s
both make barrels. I’d actually be tempted to use the 1:9 lightweight barrel that CanAm has. Norinco has a stigma but these barrels are supposed to be pretty good.

Watch around, Irunguns brought in a bunch of M16A1 furniture kits that people built up around their own lowers. These pop up on the EE regularly. Nothing is going to be closer to a legit M16A1 than one of those kits.

Nothing wrong with the DA556.
L:ight, accurate and easy on the wallet.
If you can hold off a few days, Canada Ammo usually has crazy sales over christmas and new Years especially Boxing Day!
Just watch their thread here on CGN and hover over the keyboard.

I'll grant the furniture is ugly, but it has its' own look and conforms to the ideals of the original A1 ideas.

Couple of thoughts for you, for heirloom rifles you can't beat a Colt . You can find them at affordable prices on the EE and places like Epps.

SP-1 is fun, but there's no case deflector so if you're a lefty you'll have to shoot right handed. Basic sights, no forward assist, shorter A1 stock.p, 1/12 twist.

Sporter II/Match or Target HBAR - Essentially the M-16A2 - better sights, forward assist, 1/7 twist for heavier Ammo.

You can expect to pay between $1000-1500 for any of the models above.

If I'm not mistaken the da556 that's in stock has a 1:12 twist barrel so if you want to fire anything above 55gr ammo it will not stabilize the round

Who shoots a Norinco Ar with anything heavier than 55gr? It aint no match barrel, so 69gr smk or 77gr otm is a waste of time.

62gr steel core....well those fig 11 target really needs that extra penetration
