Ultimatum Deadline Action

Barrel hasn't been chambered yet. Hoping to get it done over the next few weeks. The bolt just barely clears the stock on the ESS. Had to trim the mag latch on the chassis a fair bit.

Fits a MDT HS3

Bolted my shiny new action up to my HS3 Chassis. Fits perfectly except for the mags don't catch. It's VERY close, I'll just have to take a file to the mag catch for a bit and I should be good to go!

There is also the Cadex Sheepdog available for $1375 and the KS 2-lug for about $1350 (just released). Both super nice actions. We have tons of Canadian affordable options available now. Both are Remington footprint actions.

Just remove the latch with a punch, and use a bench grinder or a file to trim it down. Do just a little at a time, reinstalling and checking often. Go slow!

So after a bunch of playing around today with my ultimatum action in my MDT HS3 chassis I found that the trigger (triggertech) was not resetting. The actual part that engages the tab on the bottom of the bolt would move down and bind. Then when you cycled the bolt the firing pin wouldn't stay sticking out the back.

Upon further inspection (and much screwing around) I discovered it's because the trigger hanger was resting on a piece of the chassis. With the action screws removed you could teeter-totter the action back and forth front to back.

Looks like I"m going to have to get out the grinder and make a bit of space. Good news is that it doesn't look like I"m grinding into anything important. Its just a center block above the front of the trigger guard.

Just got a LSS gen2 today. When I put the action in the bolt could not clear the back of the stock. How is the clearance with the ESS? Looks like you have lots of room.

Ryan, not sure if you have resolved this but was mucking about with my combo and it was a simple solution. In the bag with the bolts, there is a washer, put that under the rear action bolt hole and voila, all good. I have the Gen 2 LSS carbine set up. I did bed the action and it is rock solid.

Creating this clearance also solved a bunch of trigger function issues. If trigger is not resetting properly or pull is inconsistent, maybe check with a washer under the rear and see if this solves your woes.

Just a heads up, MDT uses a funcky clam type spring. Really not sure what voodoo or elves they use to assemble but I have given up and fallen at the feet of the MDT techs for help.

The latch is an interesting set up with large divot where this spring sits. I was able to shorten and still retain the top of the latch... be careful and test often.

When I get this spring back in, I will get to the range. some tweaks on the mag rear were needed to work with the different action bottom. However, once done, the action does feed well.

Tested a variety of factory and prefit barrels and they worked very nicely in this action. The standard Savage barrel nut can be used if you already have it.

Well, not so straight forward but the mag latch is back together and the rifle done. Without bipod or optics, 8lbs 10oz... makes for a very portable rig.

Looks to warm up next week so will send some lead downrange in the new year.

Had a Deadline dropped off to me yesterday. I am impressed did a side by side comparison with a defiance deviant. No measuring tools were broken out so this was all by feel, bolt clearance the deadline seemed to have slightly more which depending on application isnt a bad thing in my mind. Bolt lift I would say was near the same with the deviant maybe ever so slightly heavier. This action looks really nice especially at the price point. I am looking forward to getting a barrel on that action and seeing how it runs!

We have been looking at a new Deadline over the last week and are anxious to do built, probably 6.5X47 Lapua. Marco has been helpful with trigger and mag info, recommending AI AW as no mods are required and it works best when single feeding. We sell other actions product but highly recommend this new Canadian product.

Regards,

Peter

I'm interested to see how your build turns out - I've got a x47 build in progress. I'm just waiting for my chassis to get cut and I'll be good to go but the more info on the system the better. If you could keep everybody in the loop (especially with regards to load development, mag reliability, parts selection etc) as your build progresses that would definitely be appreciated!

Deadline with the new Cadex Strike Nuke... a very nice Cdn combo. AI AW mags snap in perfectly and my set up ran like a champ. I am able to offer a variety of "kits" that you can spec including chassis/stock, trigger, barrels, and even optics.

Remember that Savage prefits work and you can also order different bolt heads for the 223, 308, and magnum family of cartridges. There are literally 50+ chambers available from 17cal to 458cal. And you can swap out the parts in minutes. Lots and lots of barrel options in size, spec and finishes.

I am working with Cadex to confirm fitment but my experience has been positive and we don't expect any surprises.

I will have the MDT ESS chassis shortly. More options will come on line as the pattern is set up with other Chassis and stock makers.

I have done some range work with the action and it works very nicely. With the AW mags, feeding is smooth and fast. If needed, single loading is easy and a rd dropped on the mag drives into the chamber without fuss. Ejection is energetic with the dual plungers making sure your empty leaves the action.

There are a number of really smart ideas in this action and I also like the Lambourghini styling.

PM or email to discuss.

Thanks

Jerry
