Hey All,

looking for feedback on the savage a22 (22lr not magnum) from anyone that has used or purchased this rifle. My wife is looking to get into shooting, and i currently do not own a .22 to get her started on. I was looking at the a22 or the savage mark ii f in .22lr. The majority of my rifles are savage, but by all means if you have recommendations below the $350 mark let me know.

Thanks!

My cousin had one. It was extremely accurate, however this particular one was a jam-o-matic. Didn't matter what ammo we used and we tried about 15 different types just wouldnt work right. Because he didn't want to wait for warranty as he needed a rifle for a Mapleseed he ended up grabing a Ruger.

same...I have a 795 Marlin that I love but Cabelas has the A22 on sale for 280$. Tempted to pick one up to try.

Rather than the MKIIF, why not the MKIIG B22. Yesterday they had a $50 Savage card rebate. so that makes it a $249.00 very accurate hardwood stocked rifle. Not a bad deal.

Btw cabelas has it for 249

I just got off the phone with Cabelas to see how long it will be on sale and they couldn't (i.e. would not) tell me. I decided to order it for local pickup at my local store as I have a feeling this price will not last very long..perhaps a halloween sale that ends at midnight.

I wanted to get a 795 because I love my model 60. Would this savage be more accurate than a Marlin? Because at this price I might just try one

WTF!!! I had it in my cart, purchased it, entered my PAL info and when clicking <<confirm order<< It told me that it was no longer available???

I have had an A22 for 6 or 7 months now and it’s great! I’ve shot nearly 1000 rounds of the federal 36gr 525 bulk pack through it. I’ve gotten MOA accuracy out of it using that ammo, a table and bipod.

The gun has lots of nice features. It has an adjustable for elevation and windage rear sight with little marks to tell how far you’ve gone either way, metal sling swivels that are large enough to accept a bipod. It has a recessed crown that has helped prevent damage, an accu trigger that has a very crisp break, a free floated barrel and 4 screw holes on the receiver to mount a scope. It does not have last round hold open but it does have a button that allows you to hold it open manually.

The comb on the stock is very high (high enough to make the iron sights sort of difficult to use) so it’s ideal for a scope. I installed #35 weaver bases to mount a bushnell 3-9x scope which worked well until I was able to find a full length Picatinny rail specifically designed for it from EGWguns. I mounted a holosun 515cu red dot and a vortex VMX-3t magnifier on the rail.

The 10 round rotary magazines for this gun are very good but a little tricky to load although you can get used to it. Butler creek makes 25 round mags that are also very good, they have a tab that you can pull down to make them easy to load and they have very solid construction. I did have a few malfunctions with the 25 rounders when I first used them although that was due to me loading them improperly, the rims of the rounds were catching on each other.

I really like this gun. It’s the first semi auto 22 I’ve ever owned so I can’t compare it against anything else but I don’t think I would’ve preferred anything else. My only criticism is the synthetic stock, the fit on the seams is a bit poor but it’s something that I can live with. Oh and easy to take apart and clean!

Where did you find the 25-round magazines for the A-22, if I may ask?
