Howdy, I have a Model 70 long action (post 64) and am mounting a VX2 w/ 50mm objective.

My low Leopold rings are too low. Just wondering if anyone has used Mediums for this application, hoping not to have to go to High as I like as much cheek on the stock as possible.

Thanks for any input. Clint

I have a M70. I have not mounted at 50mm. Mediums should work for you. They are about .1" (2.5mm) higher than lows. Are hou using flip up scope caps? How much extra clearance do you need?

I started using 'custom' cheek risers a long time ago, and it's an easy way to get a good cheek weld without a new stock. All you need is an 'ammo sleeve' for the stock and a piece of wood or foam to take up the space. The ammo sleeve holds the spacer in place, and is easily removable when you need to take out your bolt.

I mounted the same scope on my Vanguard yesterday, was able to get away with high rings. About 0.400 from mount to saddle I think. 0.358 were too low.

Thanks gents, I will get out the calipers and see where things are for sure. No caps right now but likely in the near future and thanks for the tip on Custom risers. Clint

If you end up getting flip caps just get the Leupold Alumina caps. They don't require any extra scope height. A little more $ than other options but well worth it.
