So I've been trying to track down .224 Speer Gold Dot or Federal bonded bear claw bullets in Canada but I'm coming up empty.

I've found several sources in the US but I am not sure if I can order from the US due to ITAR and other restrictions.

Has anyone used an export/import service to bring bullets into Canada? Do bullets need to be approved for import into Canada by anyone?

I did try a search here but didn't find an answer...

Projectiles are 'Regulated' ITAR items and you need a US export permit regardless of their value or quantity. Canada does not care about the importation except to collect the taxes.

Brownell's will charge $250 for the Export License Application Fee paperwork (for one year's worth of Regulated orders AFAIK). Importers like IRUNGUNS probably charge the same but you would need to contact them.

Bullet export from the USA are regulated. I can custom order them from my supplier if you have a brand & part #. Send me an email & I can check on availability & pricing for you.

I thought you were on holidays Henry (I could use 4 lbs of HP-38, lol) :>) Merry Christmas

OP - you won't go wrong ordering them through Henry @ Budget Shooter Supply

But whatever you do OP, do not go to Henry’s website, and do not look at all his great products and great prices. Seriously. Just don’t. Or at least wait until the 9th or 10th so I have a chance to get on there and scoop up all the deals first.

Thanks all, and thanks Henry. I will reach out to you by email.

What's so special about these bullets are that they're bonded bullets which are barrier blind with reliable expansion.

I'm looking to replicate a variety of LE and military 5.56 loads and many of the bullets aren't readily available in Canada.

I recently applied for an import approval and was got it back in 5 days.
This was for a set of turrets from Leupold Stephens.

I asked the person at Foreign Affair,Trade and Development of Canada, if I could apply for an more expensive item.
He said the cost didn’t matter and it was free.

So where is this $250 fee coming from?

It’s not the import you need to worry about. It’s the export.

So the export is up to the US company right?
Leupold told me to email them , my import cert.
And they would take care of the rest of the paperwork, on their end.

I asked if it works the same way ,with a $1500 scope, and they said ,yes.
No extra fees added.

Leupold is a licenced exporter.
Some items may be exported by a licenced exporter without additional fees or permit - like your turrets. Other items are specifically controlled, and an export permit must be obtained for the export of that particular item - that is when the fees kick in.

Thanks, I got it now.
