Ruger peep sight

The best aftermarket peep/ghost ring for the Ruger, IMHO, is NECG's, it has now been remodeled in the style of their CZ peep sight. The sight clamps directly to the receiver's dovetail, so drilling and tapping is not required. Elevation is adjusted by threading the aperture stem in or out, and windage by means of opposing screws, back off one side, and tighten the other to move the sight.

The sight still has to be initially zeroed for windage, and a Ruger barrel band front sight doesn't have a dovetail that provides for drifting a sight blade left or right. Therefore windage adjustment in the rear sight is beneficial.
So here's what I've got so far.......
I found half of a stainless Ruger ring in one of my bins and had an idea.
If I line it up, measure it out, then drill a hole........ this might just work.
Off to the range for a quick test...... 50y and 3 different loads, Yup!, pretty close.
The windage can be solved by drifting the front post, and the height will be addressed with a taller XS sights front post.
Now for the shaping.........

GMC403, I like your idea and your effort.
I have a NECG sight for my Mk II, and thought I would try it on the 96/44. It fits of course but does not adjust down low enough to use the stock front sight, which already seems too high imo but works with the buckhorn rear.
I had thought of using a spare ring like you , but the idea I had was to file a wide groove into the curve and fit a spare aperture. Position trial by fire would say where to finally glue/braze/jbweld it in.
First bubba idea was to braze on a brass hex nut, but then found the spare peep.
I like your idea too, it may even be lower than what I had planned.

Have seen where a tiny flat plate is mounted to the front of the weaver base with two tiny screws. Plate had aperture hole and slotted screw holes for movement to adjust.
This did not interfere with the ring and was permanent.

Just an update,
I ended up having a Skinner Lo Pro installed on the receiver. There’s no windage adjustment but dead center worked well for sight alignment, the front sight could be drifted if need be. Ended up fitting nice under the factory #5 Rings.
