The Best Deer Drive Setup For 870?

Fully rifled barrel is one of the two remaining I want to acquire for the 870.

The FR will be 20". I just don't see the need for a 23-24" FR.

By the way, Remington and Hastings make 20 inch - 12ga rifled barrels. My Hastings is a 20" barrel but they are hard to come by here in Canada. TradeEx is out of stock:

For Remington cantilever barrels ... you can order them from Gravel Agency ... However, it might take 3 month for the barrel to arrive as it happened to me with one barrel.

Here is one that is 20 inches:

And one more thing ... rifled slug barrels are very very ammo sensitive ... and each barrel is different. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money on different sabots from different manufacturers ... and the time to test those ... and in order to find a combination that you can shoot accurately out to 150 meters.

Hope this helps ....

Originally I hunted in 87E on the east end out past Cainsville off Mcbay rd, that's where our family farm is. Now I hunt out in 90B around Burford but sometimes end up south in the agreement bushes.

We likely hunt the same bushes and may have met over the years. You're likely hunting around my house...

We don't have to use slugs here but if we did, that's what I'd have.

You'd choose the bolt gun over the 870? Curious why as I am trying to decide between the two.

I do a shotgun only controlled hunt in SW Ontario and carry 20ga 870 rifled cantilever barrel with a red dot, I like the lite weight for some of the longer trikes across a field to a bush for a drive. But I have picked up a rifled barrel with sights and added a set of TruGlo after having a hard time getting on target on deer up close on the run.

I have had many through out the years. 870 both regular barrel and 20" smooth bore with iron sights , auto 5 regular barrel with scope and rifled barrel with iron sights , gold fusion rifled barrel with eotech
And Browning a-bolt 12ga with 1.5-6 elite scope
Semis are the best on pushes when you get 3 or 4 running at you... I personally like the a-bolt best. Scope makes a little challenging for deer running through the bush otherwise it's my go to gun now.
