Claven2's Type 81 shooting review thread

Lubriplate on the carrier rails and hopped gun oil on everything else. I think the lubriplate was getting too thick. It would have run ok if it had been lubed less, it has before.

G96 and you can run it in -50. Ask me how I know.

Great detailed report! Still waiting to shoot mine, between Holiday stuff and wx (another snow warning for today here), times haven't been conducive to getting some range time in.

Thing about the safety is at the halfway mark of turning it hits a spot where it's harder to move I just use that. It still works and it's just a flick of your thumb to take off

Notice the follower where the arrows point. There is no cutout on the follower of the AK mag. Both AK and T81 mags have detents inside the mag body that limit how high up the follower can go in the mag. AK bolt feed lugs hang lower in the receiver than on a T81, so the followers are set to not rise up as high, so the feed lug doesn't hit the back of the follower.

Thanks for this excellent tip! My modded pmags worked flawlessly but the bulgarian mag jammed on the last round every time like you mentioned. I had just chalked it up to it being a cheaper(crappy) mag.
After reading your review and seeing the pics I took a sharp knife and shaved the spot out on the follower.
Only took a couple minutes and I had to do both sides but now the follower sits up the same as my t81 mags.
Forgot to take a before pic

I’ll save final judgment for after I get out and try it but I’m feeling confident it’ll work now. When I get my steel mags back if they have this problem now I’ll know how to fix it.
Much obliged!!

nice review ... -25c is nothing we got -37c without the windchill this morning and i was alone shooting at the range ....

You should come for a visit to Norman wells, NT. I need someone that dedicated to come shooting with me lol. Tried going to the range last week and got stuck bad. Spent 1.5 hours shoveling and still didn't make it lol

good review, my expirence with the t81 is similar except I had to drive my front sight left as well as lower it
Haven't tried my modded steel ak mag yet but thanks for the tip on the follower, will check it to see if it's the same as the one on the factory mag

lucky i had studded tires as the ice from the melting of previous weeks was bad .... lucky too i was not stuck in the snow otherwise it will have been a long day ... but so far the snow is not that much here ... i didnt have a tikka to test but a weatherby mark V and a zastava all of them worked great as the scope ... but shooting was a little lower than when it is warmer ...
