I see a few people taking on a third party opinions that Type 81 owners themselves don't have.

I have been told that I have buyers remorse, that I purchased a $1,000 SKS, that my desire for an AKM style rifle has allowed me to be taken advantage of. I have been told that my rifle is cheap Chinese junk.

The only thing that I have been told that is true is that my rifle is Chinese...

This thread is for those who own and enjoy the Type 81 to share pics and reviews

Whatever dude, you know you got ripped off. You should have just bought a $225 BBQ paint mismatched Russian SKS refurb. Better rifle in every way according to internet wisdom.

Does your crappy gun shoot around corners?

Does it have dremel grinding on the bolt? I read they are all defective anyhow. My SKS goes bang every time and cost $800 less. Loser.

d:h:

EDIT - PLEASE NOTE - this is SARCASM. I have a T81. On like page 6+ now and people are still not realizing I was kidding.

Ha, don't worry about the negative people, it's just the internet :)

I went into the T81 purchase with my eyes wide open, knowing exactly what to expect, and what I received met my expectations.

And- If I wanted an 858 I would have bought one. :)

Well that didn't take long to go sideways!! I don't own one, and had no desire to buy one, but after trying Dilligaf's right after he got it, I actually liked it more than I thought I would. Definitely not an SKS, despite some superficial appearance and design similarities.

I figure a type 81 is worth $700-$800ish to me. If they come down to that in the used market I'll probably buy one.

Claven2 is being funny, he owns one and loves it, gave it a great review in his own thread

Quote from the Canadian Gun Vault:

Well folks...if you've been itching for the last two decades to own an AK47 and the Czech made series of CZ rifles wasn't quite cutting it.....then wait no longer.

The Chinese Type 81 has arrived on Canadian shores and I will just come right out and say it.

There isn't anything out there that will even come close to providing the Canadian shooter with the AK47 experience.

The CZ58 series does a fine job of performing...and even looks the part with that curved magazine; but the striker fired Czech wonder will never quite match the feel and sound of this gun if an AK47 experience is what your after.

From the slim wooden forend to the wooden pistol grip....the minute your hands touch this 7.62 firing gun your going to be happy.

The stamped metal receiver is a slightly heavier gauge steel than that used on AK47 these days and that bolt makes that awesome "clackety CLACK" sound as you cycle it that is unmistakingly communist block in it's lineage.

The magazines look very much like AK47 but are NOT interchangeable. The short stroke piston design smoothes out some of the rattle connected to the original Russian long stroke one under firing.

The gas shut off is a nice touch....especially if you can get your hands on some inert grenades and some full powered blanks for this baby!!!! because that grenade launching adapter that doubles as a barrel shroud is the coolest one I've seen on a commercially available gun since the Yugoslavian SKS.

The selector switch will be easy to find if your used to AR15 type platform rifles...replacing the GIGANTIC CLUNKY right hand side arm type of the AK47.

All in all I will say this.

For about $1000 you get quite the gun.

The CZ58 series of rifle may arguably be a better made unit and both share the much desired bolt hold open feature that was always absent on the AK47

but when it comes right down to it....and your wanting to own an AK47 here in Canada and can't because of the prohibition.

The Type 81 is DEFINITELY what your looking for.

Hands down. Bar None.

This is the one.

Sincerely
The CGV.

Interestingly, Americans who have ak rifles are jealous of us and want the type 81, which many consider to be the evolution of the AK.

The 81 has become my new favorite shooter and has replaced all my other semi autos when going to the range. So happy with this gun and its performance

There's been a lot of "I'm so happy I cancelled my pre-buy order......" posts lately. Weighing the good with the bad impressions I've read and experienced so far this generally means I couldn't really afford it anyway and a few groceries were higher on my priority list but gosh darn it I'm special, people like me so hear me and hear me now.

Couldn't imagine the cancelling of a thousand dollar purchase being the provider of so much happiness unless you're starving or your wife had been #####ing at you since she found the visa bill or CSC. To be following these threads if you cancelled your order and posting your delight could be confused with compelling evidence of severe post non-purchase anxiety in the face of financial despair or progressive mental illness.

Or they just decided their money was better spent elsewhere...

As for the closest thing you can get to an ak, that would be a valmet... because it pretty much is an ak.

I'm seeing some happy owners, some defensive owners, some unhappy owners, and some people that bailed on the train. Different people have their reasons for getting the gun or not getting it, let's not assume on why someone decided to do something.

I agree with this sentiment for the most part but haven't seen very many unhappy owners. The unhappy owners have been very vocal, there's no question about that but I see more unhappy non-owners saying how happy they are.

I enjoy reading experiences of owners unhappy or not and responses of those with well reasoned responses of those that chose not to purchase.

I'll never understand the need of some to chime in on owners type thread of those who just want to piss on someones cheerios unless monetary factors coupled with self importance and mental illness were not primary motivators. I guess it's all relative, I'm so glad I didn't purchase that 1 dollar widget at the bargain store. What a colossal mistake that would have been so heed my valuable insight and don't go down that road I almost did. That's just messed up.

I am very happy for you that you feel like the 81 is the best $1000 you’ve ever spent.

You are entitled to making your own decisions for your own money, and I’m happy that you have spent it on something that makes you happy.

I can personally think of a dozen ways that you could better spend $1000, but that’s irrelevant.

It’s your money, so you enjoy your gun. You go, boy.

No one ever has ever said such a thing ever. Your opening sentence is a prime example of the mental illness I speak of. You must feel threatened somehow by others purchasing decisions. That's seriously messed up.

Edit: I did some checking and do see where one poster stated this was the best 1 thousand dollars he'd ever spent. Good God almighty.
