I’m looking for a new revolver and the GP100 and MR88 are on my short list. I’ve read in several places the MR88 is essentially a GP100 with a Manurhin barrel and cylinder. No clue if this is true or not.

Im hoping to find out the following:

Are the internal parts of the GP100 and MR88 interchangeable!(even if it’s just springs). Ex. Wolff Springs makes Springs for the GP100 would they fit a MR88?

How accurate do they find their MR88. I own a Manurhin MR38 so I’m familiar with the quality of manurhin revolvers.

Lastly, how is the SA and DA on the MR88?

Thank you in advance

Brian

I really can't add much to my original range report as I haven't had the MR88 out since shortly after I wrote that post. I can't believe the trigger is the same as the Ruger as it's easily as good out of the box as a well broken in K-38. I don't own any Ruger revolvers but from what I've read while they have many good attributes, having an exceptional trigger out of the box isn't one of them.
I would expect the internals not to be interchangeable with the GP100. As gdawg says, the MR88 started life as a collaboration between Ruger and Manhurin with the frame based on the Security Six.

I think you really have to decide what you want and your budget as the two guns occupy two different segments in the marketplace.

sailor723, could you compare the size of the grips to other handguns? I think my hands are fairly small.

(I recently handled a SIG P320 medium, Glock 17, and a Beretta 92; the G and B grips were waaaaay too big for my small hands, the P320 medium fit surprisingly well.)

I can't comment on the MR88, but I can recall reading an article in a gun mag from the 80's where a Ruger armorer was demonstrating how tough the GP100's were.

He literally took the pistol and skipped it sideways across the asphalt of a parking lot. Hard.

The barrel had some serious road rash on it, and the grip cracked. All he did was tape up the grip and then he fired the pistol. It worked without a hitch.

I used to carry either a S&W Model 64 or a Model 10 with a mountain barrel. I loved them, but I was always intrigued by the GP100's.

If I ever buy another revolver, it will be a Ruger.

I'd say they are slightly on the small/thin side if anything. It's hard to describe but sort of narrow but fairly long front to back. I have large hands and while they are OK for me I think I would like them even better if they were somewhat "fatter" with more of a palm swell. Definitely smaller than any of my K frame S&W's with target grips or my Colt's (Python, Trooper, OMM's etc) I don't have any of the pistols you mention but the MR88 grips are quite a bit smaller than a CZ Shadow if that helps.
