I Bought a Beautiful Rifle a While Back ...Figured out pics now up

You are right, I guess Im living in the past. How about a C-170 with a 260 under the hood? If I had a choice would stick with a tailwheel. So much easier to switch to skiis or floats. To each his own! Have a great New Year!

Again sorry I can't post pics but maybe I'll figure out another site shortly.
I drooled over this rifle when it was introduced in the '80s and one came up on the EE this spring so I bought it. It is in the same class as my Sako Safari, it's a Weatherby Mark V Safari Classic in 375 H&H. I has a perfectly straight stock with end to end fiddleback, round short forend tipped with ebony with classic point checkering and an oil finish, quarter rib and banded front swivel. The only oversight in my opinion is it does not have a banded front sight. It has an engraved floor plate made of steel with Safari Classic engraved in a ribbon wound through other kinda floral engraving on the plate. This is one classy rifle and a huge departure from the "Weatherby" SoCal styling, it is 100% pure straight stocked classic down to the ebony grip cap and fore end tip, shadow line cheek piece, solid recoil pad and satin metal finish. I mounted a 3-9X40 Leupold on it for a shake down and load development.
If y'all want to see photos of it just google "Weatherby Mark V Safari Classic"........I'll get back after I do some range time with it but for now it is absolutely gorgeous.

C-FBMI, your first signature line is one of my favourite sayings........

"I'd rather be on the ground wishing I was flying, than flying wishing I was on the ground

Jetjock.......I have never flown a tail dragger, but I've put tricycle gear down in places guys wouldn't land their tail draggers and I once landed a Cherokee Archer in a 50 kt 90 degree cross wind.........without damage !!! Try that in a tail dragger........

You did a heck of a job getting down safely in a crosswind like that! Back when the earth was still cooling, I landed an old Stinson 108-3 on a taxiway in Ft St John when the crosswind was unmanageable. Got a DC-3 down when I was looking out the side window before kicking out the drift and putting the wing into the wind. Thought I might hit the tip but worked out. About 40% of my 14,000 hours has been in tailwheel craft. A G-4 is not nearly as much fun!

Have a Wby MkV I wasn't sure about so sent in a photo and serial number to Weatherby.com. Within the week, I had a reply back and told that I had a fine example of a Classic II. I have an old German MkV fitted with a Zeiss Diavardi scope using the Claw sysyem. Very nice 270 Wby Mag that still shoots straight but nowhere as pretty as your example.

By the way, have you added to your trophy room? Photos?
