I'm looking to do it in 6.5CM, and want to build off a remington short action. Purpose is for target shooting, and hunting. I'm ok if it's a little heavier than what a true hunting rifle is supposed to be. But I wanna be able to nail a coyote from 600 metres, want sub-moa accuracy.
What's the lowest price range I can get away with to do that with?
Scope & mount included, all in, I was looking at $1800-2000. If I can do it for less that would be great though.
Are my requirements realistic?

Do you already have the Rem 700 SA receiver? If you don't, plan on about $600 for the receiver. Plan on +/- $500 for a barrel and about the same to install the barrel and thread the muzzle (if you want to run a brake). Then you need a stock or chassis to put it in which will run you from $500 up to however much you want to spend, a factory trigger would run you about $40 and customs range from $200 up to $500. All said, doesn't leave any money for a scope. If you're starting off from scratch, your best bet would be to pick up a Rem 700 barrelled action in 6.5, I think there were some floating around for $600-700 and drop it in the stock/chassis of your choice. You'll still probably have to stretch your budget to get a quality scope though.

I was looking at the magpul hunter 700 stock, goes for $300, and Vortex viper 4x10 for $630
And yeah, I did see a complete barrelled action with trigger in 6.5 for $750.

Budget is real tight but if you stick with the factory stock and just rebarrel, watch how blingy you get with your optics, yes possible.

Rem 783... take the factory rifle, spin on a match prefit, Sightron STAC or similar and under your budget... 1/4 to 1/3 MOA capable.

YMMV

6CC363D0-7D3A-4EDA-BB7C-90ED3C6EA445.jpgHow about a savage 10T , and Leupold VX 3 6.5 -20.

The Savage is $850+ txs,
And you should be able to get a VX3 6.5-20 off the EE for $700.
I have one and it has nice glass.

I just took my savage in 6.5 out today for the first time. Seems like a decent starter rig with potential. Still debating a scope for it but it seems like something decent to build off.

The OP has a tight budget to get all on the list. Reliable gun had the Remington 700 barrelled action installed in a Magpul hunter for around $1000. Leaves a decent chunk for a scope. Remington makes a factory Magpul edition in 260 Remington too if you hand load......

This is my 6.5CM as it was during hunting:

This is the same rifle now:

Budget wise I am well over what I originally planned on but I decided I might as well go big or go home. The scope is a Vortex Viper that I've had for awhile now. Picked it up for $350 I think it was.

Rifle was $1350 on it's own so with the rifle and the scope I was originally within your budget. Rifle is a Tikka T3X CTR.

After hunting season I picked up the Mcmillan for another $1000 just to flesh out the build.

What's the weight difference on the Macmillan vs the tikka stock?

The Bergara is getting good reviews and it has the rem 700 footprint. $1,500 for a rifle that you don't have to add anything to. But yeah, when it comes to glass, I have had the viper's and other cheaper optics, and they do the trick. But, if you look at the resale value when you think about upgrading, you're gonna take a hit and with the price of the upgrade, you'll be further behind than if you bought a good scope to begin with. It would be worth buying a sweet scope for around the $2,000 mark, and then a cheaper rifle to shoot with.

And don't forget about reloading equipment. Ammo is huge for sub-moa accuracy, so if you don't already reload, you're going to want to.

Shooting precision rifles is not cheap...

This is where I would go. Most guns will shoot 1moa or better even the cheap ones. Spend the wad on a good optic. I see a lot of ruger predators ect with night force optics on them.

Wouldn’t hesitate for 2 seconds anymore about puttin 2-3000 dollar glass on a 500.00 rifle. Almost any rifle can be made to shoot through minor mods and handloading. My priorities nowadays are in this order... glass, ammo, rifle. Quality glass. Proven ammo (and lots of it) and then worry about the rifle.
