Hi all,
Want to have some external advices...
I am buying a new chassis style rifle, for PRS competitions. I want it in 6.5CM.

It's been a while that I am looking at the Ruger RPR gen 2, as it has very nice features, for a good price. But today I have seen the HOWA HCR for just 200$ more... Kinda good deal for the money too!

I think the RPR has more aftermarket parts available, and the barrel is 5R, threaded and muzzle break included. That's pretty much what is the pros of the RPR...
The Howa come with a sub MOA warranty, and have very good reviews!

What would be your choice?

Decision decision...

I'm interested in this thread too as I'm dealing with the exact same question...torn on what to get!

I tend to be more on the Ruger side, as the aftermarket parts are already available, and the gen2 has solved most of the previous version issues. Also there is some prefits barrels available, and the handguard can be replaced, which the HOWA can't.

But the HOWA seems to be a bit more refined... But I havent tried the HOWA, never touched one :(

My .02$
You already shot well and won stuff with that savage 10 right?

Why not just buy a prefit barrel and tight it on yourself?
Many companies make nice chassis for savage too.
Custom barrel should be ahead a factory ruger barrel

Already got a Shillen barrel for my 10TR :) I have to send it to the gunsmith to thread the muzzle.
I was about to order a MDT ESS for it, but this will add 2x the price of the original rifle, and will have only a pimped 10TR...
With a new ruger/HOWA, I will have another rifle, and another great caliber. This caliber have a longer range of effectiveness, which I like!

10-4 you got it covered!

Then why not a 2nd 10TR that you rebarrel in 6.5CM or 6.5x47, drop in chassis, and sell all unfired factory stuff?

LMAO didn't see that one comin' !
Hehe would'nt be that bad I'm sure :) 1000$ chassis, 750$ rifle, 600$ barrel... Well, budget is BUSTED! Booom :)

Find an older gen Savage SA... $450... even better, a Stevens 200 $300'ish... better trigger options, less money invested, can be tuned to function even nicer and smoother.

I have been quite impressed with the Howas and always was surprised at how under rated they were... maybe it was gunsmiths not wanting to deal with a "square" bottom????

Anyways, more stuff is becoming available and prefits are now a thing for the Howa.

I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the popular receivers. However, I lean towards actions that will use a Savage/Rem 783 barrel thread so I can swap barrels between actions.

Just got back from the range with the Deadline Action... worked very nicely. Put on the CarbonSix prefit in 6.5 CM I previously had on my Rem 783 to the same headspace, shot the same loads for the same accuracy. Not sure which barrel I will put on next....

Fun, fun, fun...

My choice is getting clearer, maybe because I can't have my hands on a HOWA HCR to test the feeling of it. The RPR seems the right choice fo me, as there is more included for the price. Muzzle, 20MOA rail, foldable stock, two mags, handrail can be swapped, 5R chrome lined barrel, rail mountable for my CADEX bipod, more aftermarket parts available...
My local gun store don't have one in stock, and can't give me a ETA if I order one. Northern Elite Firearms seems to have one in stock on the website, but when I call there is only a voicemail machine... Dont want to send 1800$ online if I don't know if the rifle is on the shelf!
Do you know a place that have one stock?

Thanks !

That's easy Gunnut, Buy both!

I had a Ruger rpr sold it didn’t like the feeling and trigger and handguard covers the barrel so scope won’t seat lower grr bought instead a Howa HCR got my self a 20moa rail EGW and order a timney trigger #611 1 stage ajustable 1.5-4lbs at 134$ I don’t like the 2 stage trigger even tho the HCR has a much better 2 stage trigger vs rpr out of the box
The buttstock is a Luth AR easy to ajust and tooless faster ajustements vs rpr but eventually will buy a MDT buttstock
And keep the Luth AR for my AR15 JP

Howa barrels are more accurate then ruger also the howa has a smoother action almost like my Tikka T3 sporter

Here the video that sold me on the howa hcr
