euxx I am not sure which classifier you want to discuss. All of the Classifiers have been published and are available to IDPA members. The handgun Classifier hasn't changed over last year. The PCC Classifier has just been finalized and is now published. The MD has an option he can run a PCC Match or he can run a combined match. If it is the latter than the stages would have to reflect the confines that exist for handguns ie maximum distance for scenario stages is 20 yards.
FYI we have used our carbines after our pistol match in the past using the stages we used for the handgun match and it great fun. Had HQ asked me, and they certainly didn't, I would have limited the carbines to the same restrictions we have on handgun stages. It would have made life a lot easier, and retained the "self defense" theme of the sport. I do believe the background of those involved, decided to extend the use of the division perhaps as a stand alone event at some point. It would appear they were influenced by the sport of 3 Gun and the fact there are no or less mag restrictions on semi auto carbines in the US. Why else would you go with 30 round mags on stages limited to 18 rounds? It seems the art of doing fast reloads is something you might want to test in a sport beyond just accuracy.
For us in Canada the question is moot since we are limited to 10 rounds if we use pistol mags in pistol caliber carbines. In Canada, if we play with PCC using handgun stages and we will be using 10 round mags, my believe the fun factor will be a lot greater than in the US and for the clubs a lot less cumbersome. I am looking forward to using my Beretta Storm in Matches. Using it with 40 cal mags, I could run it with 14 +1 rounds. In saying that I suspect out MD will limit the rounds to 10 so it is fair for all those competing in PCC. The rules allow the MD to do so.
Enjoy the season. For those of us without indoor ranges the season starts in some parts of Canada in two months.
