hello guys i have always wanted to get a lee enfield full wood rifle as i really enjoy historical rifles but they have been price prohibitive for me as i was not born early enough to get them for $50 like some Canadians. but now im not sure of exactly what i have and would like some help identifying it thanks in advance. it is missing the crest and designation that would normally be on the write band on the rifles right side,it also was not taken care of by its previous owner but for the price i paid im not worried at all and will be removing as much dirt and rust as possible without hurting the finish.

Marked "US PROPERTY"

You've got a No.4 Mk1* made by Savage in the USA during the Second World War and accepted into US military service as shown by the US PROPERTY stamp and also the flaming bomb mark.
Some oil, an old toothbrush and a roll of paper towel should really bring this rifle back to life.

As a side note, the No4. Mk 1s and Mk 1* rifles do not have anything on their wrist socket besides the serial number. The No1 MkIII rifles had factory info on the wrist socket, this was changed on the later rifles.

Savage stamped them "US Property" and 'lent' them to the commonwealth under the Lend Lease program. US Property as one cannot lend what one does not own.

Good score, it should clean up well with some elbow grease. My sporter no.4 was filthy and had some minor surface rust in areas, the metal cleaned up well with oil and 0000 steel wool. Varsol a rag and an old tooth brush got the wood cleaned up, give it
Some BLO afterwoods.
