Competition Glock 34 Sights ?

Hey gun nuts, I own a Glock 34 gen 4 and iam changing some features more for competition use. Iam 48 and my eyes are not like they used to be. I have a Highviz fibre optic front and Glock adjustable rear. I can't see indoors very good with this setup. I realize most competitive shooters use fibre optic fronts and blacked out tears from one of the top guys but iam thinking of trying out the Trigicon XD Xr, night sights for indoor competition. Apparently the new thinner front blade would make the difference for more accurate shots on IPSC courses of fire. Any input is appreciated, the only other fibre optic I've heard is bright enough is the Taran Tactical.
 
I don’t see how a different FO brand can be brighter. Aren’t all FO filaments the same? Or am I missing something?

I would agree with the Trijicons. If your eyes are as bad as you say, definitely get the blacked out rears and illuminated front only!! The standard 3 dot design sucks for low light and if you are blind! You’ll see 6 dots!

On a related note, I’m too cheap to convert all my Trijicons to front sight illumination only. But I’m suffering from the issue I just mentioned. I see multiple dots from the draw and I can’t stand it anymore. I’ve tried multiple coats of black Sharpies but the rear sights still glow through. Anyone know what is dense but small and rugged enough to cover the rear sights so no light comes through? Will black nail polish do it?
 
Generally a thinner front post, with more light on either side, is faster not more accurate. Sometimes there isn't enough light for a FO front to pickup making them look dull.
 
Apparently the Taran Tactical front sights fibre optic is towards the top of the blade and it has a shiny screw holding it in place which allows for more light through the fibre optic? It's developed by two comp shooters so you might think it works. I kinda like the idea of the luminescent from the Trigicon. Iam just not a 100% wether the normal Dad's which have a wider front post or the newer XD XR or extended range would be better for IPSC. From what I've read the thinner post of the XR's are better suited for target acquisition on IPSC type targets.

There are always compromises with sights. The thinner sights give a more precise sight picture for long distances, say 15-25yds. But may have less tritium as the post is thinner so the illumination in twilight type conditions ( indoor range?) may not be as bright. Won’t be a problem in total darkness though. Not really sure about this as I don’t have them. Mine are the regular non HD ones.

The Big Dot design is simple and quick to use but not as precise for long range as the front sight will cover the entire target.

I guess you need to know how your course of fire is set up and at what distances normally and set up your sights accordingly.
 
The Sevigney Series - F.O. Front and plain black rear - from Warren Tactical are excellent.

if your eyes are part of the issue, consider investing in some prescription shooting glasses (Rudy Project, for example). Some of the best IPSC shooters in the country have a prescription that allows the to get a laser focus on the front sight.

I have the same issue using a glock and the eyes aging, I did some research and ended up putting on dawson precision adjustable rear and orange glow front site. They work great for indoors and front site is fairly bright.
 
A gold bead front may be a solution, though I don't know if anybody makes one for Glock. Less dependent on ambient light than the FO offerings.
 
To black out the rear sights try black paint from a hobby shop. My eyes are not great but I have found, late I am afraid, that fluorescent orange paint works as good or better than FO front sights. I use a toothpick to dip into the paint then gently touch the white dot front sight. I just did that on a recently purchased Walther PPQ M2 and the result is an excellent bright front sight. Works great indoors and out. I doubt I will go FO again, frankly.

Night sights work great at night but not so hot in the day time if you have issues with your eyes. Unless you intend to shoot a lot in the dark I think there are better options.

ps If you are going to try the Orange paint I mentioned apply a white base first for best results.
 
Make sure you get the fluorescent orange in the bottle. If you have a three dot system now I think you will be pleased with the way the paint sits in the cup of the front sight when you apply the paint. I left my slide standing on it's muzzle end until the paint dried. You end up with a circle dot.

Hope this works with the tritium vials. Right now, with Sharpies, they still glow thru in the dark. All my 3 dot sights are tritium...a relic of my 80s tacticoolness!
I’m going to try the black paint on the rears first before I bung up the front sights.
 
So my eye sight is fine but I'm gonna comment anyways...
I've shot Orange painted sights like Bob suggests and they were surprisingly good, BUT..
When my eyesight starts to go, I'm gonna shoot open!

Well you got Production Optic for IPSC and OPTIC Division for IDPA. I am going to make the switch this year, while stillplaying in the other Divisions for IDPA. Local club play will be in IPSC with the Optic. Should be fun all around.

Just bought a Glock 34 gen 5 and having a hard time finding sights for it. Apparently older sights don’t work well because of how the Gen 5 barrel locks. Guys end up with higher POI than expected. I’m putting Ameriglo Hackathorn sights on it for the meantime, but open to suggestions from anyone with Gen 5 experience. Cheers.
