You Don't Own A Type 81 - You Can't Speak For Us

Lucky for the Vietnamese they are nordic giants in comparison to the Chinese lol

50,000 US casualties, 1,000,000+ Vietnamese. I know everyone likes to think it was a stalemate or a loss for the US because they didn't achieve their goal, but they kicked the hell out of Vietnam.

They did a lot better than that against the Chinese right after that, which might be a bit more relevant to AKs

Know what you mean though...won every battle, lost the war.

USA walked all over the Vietnamese, still lost. Vietnamese wanted their independence too much to give up.

What was the goal of the USA in Vietnam? It certainly wasn't to bring freedom and democracy to the place.

Not even Westmoreland could explain what a "win" in Vietnam would be. I am interested to hear what you think a USA win would have been?

If the sights were loose maybe.. But if the sights were solid.. 5-6 moa dead centre or left, right or high, low is still 5-6 moa

I shot 6MOA in a hurry in -25 on my first outing with crap ammo with a front rest only, windy, and without my prescription glasses. They got 5MOA on a led sled in the summer using Hornady SST's. There had to be something wrong with the rifle. Seriously.

58,000 KIA x3 wounded And a whole country USA thrown into turmoil
The Vietnam war was never a war to win.. Same as Korea
The only way Japan and Germany were beaten .. Was complete and utter destruction
The U.S. military can't win with one arm tied behind its back

Since invading and conquering the north was never a option the US was never going to win.

There is stuff the USA did openly and stuff they never acknowledged, like being in Cambodia, bombing Laos, CIA private armies operating with what was left of French colonial interests etc.

They USA never openly invaded the North, do you really think they stayed south of the DMZ?

Ho Chi Minh, after kicking out the French agreed to the artificial division of his country, on the express condition that there would be free elections within a year. The USA never had any intentions of honoring this condition. If free and open elections had been held Ho Chi Minh would have won no contest.

Ho Chi Minh was an honorable man, he continually resisted calls for action on his side, he exhausted the negotiation process that the USA never had any intentions of going through with. Only after it was painfully clear did he accept war as the only option left.

Ho CHI MINH was only a figure head in his last years.. With no power... Honorable? maybe? As long as working class sons and daughters are doing the dieing
The U.S. had no more will to sacrifice any more men..in Vietnam
And nuclear weapons were used on Japan because the American public would not stand for 1,000,000 casualties with a invasion of the Japanese homeland

If Ho Chi Minh had run in free and open elections he would have won. Please tell me which one of the despots the USA was backing had the support of the Vietnamese people more than he?

It has also become clear, with new evidence and analysis, that the nuclear bombing of Japan was not solely to save American lives but to quickly end the war. With Europe under control the Soviet forces turned eastward and started taking over ground at surprising speed. The USA had Japan under seige and bottled up but taking the time to starve them out would have allowed the Soviets the time to grab even more territory. With the war over the lines fell where they did with cessation of hostilities. Reference Korea and how that would become the first proxy war of the new Cold War.

Yes and Yes.. I agree
I'm out on the thread hijack..
Lets get back to bashing the Type 81 bullet hose:)

What I love about this thread is it's become the thread magnet for everyone who wants to hate on the T81, leaving some of the other threads less cluttered with un-helpful input - lol.

You mean a gun that is currently bought and sold in Canada vs a vaporware gun that may one day be sold here?

No brainer.

There is that, but mostly it's because the M10X is sorta boring. It's a modern looking rifle with rails and stuff, like lots of other rifles I own........yay?

I just got my T81 in the mail and it looks great! Fixed stock model, No issues at all, its straight ,fit and finish seems as good as a nice Polytech AKM . I noticed a few parts are MIM like the trigger and rear sight wheels but most new guns have MIM parts. Was glad to see braided hammer/piston springs and a chrome bore ,piston head and cup like real military rifles . The takedown can be a bit tricky but once you get the hang its easy.

I took it out in my field today and fired 300 rounds of czech and chinese surplus ammo without a hiccup , but i did have to zero the rifle and adjust the front sight for both windage and elevation , good thing i had a AK sight tool! . Once the sights were on i was connecting on a 10 inch gong @100y with regularity standing , resting on the hood of the jeep i was hitting my 300y 14 inch gong no prob. This thing is a keeper, all i need is a folder now too! People comparing this rifle to the SKS are idiots, it has a rotating bolt ,stamped receiver and detachable mag, much more in common with a AK lol it's a direct competitor to the VZ/858 rifles , i think the T81 shoots a bit better than a non restricted VZ because it has a stiffer barrel and does not start stringing shots as bad, deals with heat better . Trigger pull is a bit better than a VZ and the reset is much better .

Investment cast, perhaps. Not sure they Are mim though. When the Chinese built t81 tooling mim didn't exist yet.

Just shot my type 81 yesterday. It's my first time shooting a stamped reciever rifle and I must say u can't compare the experience to sks or 858. Just a different gun. Mines straight and shoots as well as any sks or 858 I've ever shot. Trigger is far better. Worth the price tag for sure.

It's particularly nice when I read this and watch the video he did on it, that I know it's my rifle he's using.

He is right. The 81 fills and scratches that AKM niche and itch we have here.
