I have been wanting one of Brownings new A-5s ever since they went on the market,.. but I wanted to wait awhile to see how they paned out,.. I have read some reviews that say they are having problems with jamming,.. have any of you A-5 owners had this problem with regular hunting loads?

One has to make certain that the brass rings are in the right order one way is for 3 inch the other way is
for 2 3/4

This is the 21 century a5 there are no brass rings to adjust . I bought a new a5 in 2013 when they hit the market . no function issues with gun . over all they are a nice gun that shot well for me .however the gun is light and is inertia recoil operated which leads to more felt recoil . for that reason I much prefer my gas operated maxus . this summer I wanted a new Citori 725 field 20 ga for grouse and pheasant hunting . the only way that was going to happen was to move some guns along so the a5 was one of the guns that went with a few others to achieve my goal .

Right on rembolt,.. I have handled the new A-5 and I have to say they point nice and are very well balanced. I was surprised to read about them having jamming issues,.. Browning auto loaders have always been praised for their flawless function, and Browning put a 100,000 round, 5 year guarantee on these A-5s,.. it makes me wonder if the jamming problems may be user error, such as light loads, heavy grease or oils in the action, dirt, etc.

Not many responses on this one,... maybe the new A-5 isn't as popular as one might think,... Maybe I'll just stick with my old Browning Gold,.. I've had it for over 20 years and it has never failed me.

I'm debating the Maxus or another Silver right now. I have a Silver 20 gauge I bought off Prophet River and I love shooting it. I want a semi auto 12 gauge now.

I have shot a 20ga Silver too,.. it belonged to the same guy that had the Maxus that I shot. He had both guns on my wood lot one day shooting clay pigeons,... I absolutely loved that 20ga silver, it fit me like a glove and it seemed I couldn't make myself miss a clay bird with it,... I told the guy to get it away from me before I went and spent another $1100 I'd have to try and explain to my wife, lol.

Why would you upgrade owning a browning gold. They are bullet proof. I have four 2 12 ga 2 10ga. I bought a new maxus when they came out and it was just a waste of money for me since it is a safe queen
The golds and a x3 get the work here
Cheers

I guess you are right 3macs1,.. I find my self judging and comparing other autoloaders to my Browning Gold,.. my Gold is only chambered for 3" and sometimes I think I'm maybe missing out on something with out a 3 1/2",.. but I don't think I am, plus I have a BPS 10ga if I need a bit more thump on geese,.. so maybe I'm looking for something I've already got,... I guess I might be suffering from "the greener grass on the other side of the fence",... lol,... and as all us gunnutz know our addiction consists of guns, guns, and more guns,.. lol.

3" only is no big deal. In fact mine are both 3 1/2 and I would be they seen those shells maybe twice since the early 90's
If I am doing some pass shooting on geese I take the 10ga as you would
I used to gather semi shotguns more so buy most that came out to give them a try started in 65 after the 1100 came out in 63, then the x1 etc etc
I bought a versamax, maxus, a400,super x3 after the golds and now stopped since the price now of new ones are out of reach for me when I have good guns to use
Your gold is the kind of quality in a firearm that is passed on to the next generation not scrapped like a lot of trash out there today
Cheers

I have a browning a5 stalker 3.5 ". I've shot maybe 300 rounds from it cycles great never had a issue. Great pointability very light. The only thing i don't like is it's length it feels very long but with the 3.5 inch receiver and being inertia driven it is.

I still remember the buck I dropped with the 3.5 00 buck 18 pellet the 3 " only has 12. I

I’ve found most new guns jamming issues are opertor induced. I bought a Browning Gold Golden Clays several years ago that had jamming issues according to the seller and as I suspected he never tore the gun down after removing it from the box and it was loaded with packing grease. A good cleaning and it ran flawlessly and never once jammed on me.

I am on my third inertia A5. I have had no issues with any of them. They are light for being a 3.5” gun, and it definitely lets you know when you’ve touched off a turkey load. I much prefer my old Mag12 for that type of shooting. I just purchased the Wicked Wing version with the 26” bbl. in my research prior to just buying this one, it sounded that there were two contributing issues to failure to extract, too much lube in the return spring within the butt and some of the earlier production guns had their extractors sharpened when returned to Browning. Randy Wakeman provides a good review of it.

I was working in a gun shop when they were introduced, every jamming issue I heard about was the same one all inertia guns suffer from, if you “limp shoulder” the gun it will short stroke. A thick soft jacket will make it worse.

I have a Sweet 16 and it suffer just like the rest if I don’t shoulder it quite right. I really enjoy the gun but only own it because it is the only game in town for a modern mid to high end 16. Outside of it I hate inertia guns and have seen more issues of various types with them than gas guns by far. You could probably tempt me with a Benelli 20ga M2 or their slick 28 ga but that’s about it.

The new A5s to me handle like a broom stick, the 16 even more so than the 12.
