Oh i can't wait. Squirrels are doomed

hope you get the chance. Love squirrel hunting and about the best tasting meat you can get. Be warned though, wild squirrels are much more wary than the ones running around your neighbourhood. they are tougher to hunt than you think. But great still hunting practice for deer season.

My uncles Jack Russell used to hunt them for us at the camp. As soon as the boat landed he took off into the woods. When you heard him start yapping one of us would grab the 22 and go shoot it out of the tree he chased them up. After eating a half dozen he usually just curled up by the wood stove and slept the day away.

The eastern squirrels are larger than the western ones.
But the tiny reds are so cute and curious. They always want to get in my pack :)

Black and greys are here by the thousands, further north where I moose hunt reds are more prevalent . If I popped every squirrel I seen while hunting, I'm sure I would come home with a lot more meat than just moose hunting.

They are pretty good if done right, I like using a slow cooker. If you fry them, unless you really know what your doing they can be tougher than a truck tire.

The greys and blacks are invasive species (like the bunny rabbits...) here in the Lower Mainland and can be killed without a hunting licence BUT with zero firearms discharge bylaws it might be very challenging.

At work the other day a customer was chatting up a by-law officer and he asked her about the discharge bylaw for my town and was told the fine was 1000.00 .. Then he asked her what if he shot from inside his house and through an open window. She declined to answer but did say that her father often shoots squirrels that way with CCI quiet ammo. Just saying.. 68 db is roughly what my hoover puts out.... :)

If you deep fry the legs properly they're almost as tender and juicy as chicken wings. I really don't understand why more people aren't out there hunting them as they're plentiful, great eating and very fun to hunt.
