Just a tiny bit about the lioness above. The lions we hunt are free ranging and self sustaining on land set aside and funded completely through hunters dollars. No hunting equals no lions as the land could be better used for domestic livestock. The game preserve does have to be fenced under South African law (can’t have lions roaming around doing damage to the locals and the livestock) and must be a minimum of 10,000 acres to qualify … this preserve was 30,000 acres ….

Ahh. So sorry.

Haven't, shot, killed, harvested anything yet but damn, a wildebeest or hog one day would be cool! Won't have that kind of money anytime soon either lol

Please forgive my ignorance on the subject and not meant to be inflammatory but are the zebras good eating? Is there a challenge to hunting them? First time I’ve seen guys taking them on a hunt myself, didn’t realize it was an option. Just curiousness really on my part.

Devlin, Sakoman

Zebra is sweeter than beef with a slight game taste to it. I like it although you have to take off the fat as it can sometimes add a bitter taste to it. It is often used as biltong by us more so than straight up cooking. The meat at the lodge is eaten by the hunters while they are there (can't take it back), some by us and the workers and the rest is sold into market. We eat wild game bought from the store like you would buy chicken and beef here.

As for the hunting part, they can be challenging especially in a spot and stock situation as being a herd animal it is often tough to fool many pairs of eyes rather than just one. The hide is most often turned into a rug.

Zebra was actually my wife's first real spot and stock hunt, and she had hers done into a shoulder mount.

play.soccer, thanks. Africa is actually much cheaper than you think, unless you are hunting big five stuff like Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard or Lion. Most of the hunts we do are seven day plains game hunts in and around the five k mark and usually with animals like Kudu, Warthog, Impala and Blesbok included as an example. Compared to guided hunts here in North America they are a pretty good bang for the buck!

Interesting! I would be happy with plains game, some kind of equivalent to deer-type animals here. You have a website I assume?

What if you have zero interest in bringing home hides/heads but want to import the meat, is this possible? I can’t stand taxidermy but would love to try much of the table fare
