Just saw this unusual drop-in replacement trigger in a small Brownell's pop-up ad on a Bladeforums forum

AR-15 BFSIII TRIGGERAR-15 BFSIII TRIGGER
DESCRIPTION
Allows for Faster Fire from Your AR-15
The Franklin Armory BFSIII AR-15 Trigger is an easy-to-install trigger unit that functions in almost any standard AR-15 lower receiver and provides shooters with a faster rate of fire in a semi-auto, ATF-approved platform.

The Franklin Armory BFSIII AR-15 Trigger is a three-position system, making use of all three selector positions on a standard AR-15 lower. The first and second positions are safe and semi-auto fire, respectively. However, the third position allows for a round to fire once on the pull of the trigger and once on the release of the trigger.

Trigger-pull weight measures about 4.5 pounds
Features a positive reset
Includes an enhanced buffer spring for added reliability
Fits .154-inch trigger-pin holes
The Franklin Armory BFSIII AR-15 Trigger includes a safety features that cancels the trigger-release shot by simply moving the selector switch to "safe" with the trigger pulled. Buyers should immediately seek out proper training after installation. The system cannot be purchased by residents of CA, DC, ND, NJ, NY or WA.

Ingenious feature for the classic "double-tap" routine ... I wonder when they'll be available in Canada.

Mechanical devices that manipulate the rate of fire are already prohibited in Canada. You're also not getting a three position selector switch into an AR lower in Canada.

1 Any electrical or mechanical device that is designed or adapted to operate the trigger mechanism of a semi-automatic firearm for the purpose of causing the firearm to discharge cartridges in rapid succession.

I'm going to play that guy and say it stays withing the one pull one bang guide line.... I guess..... but that would never be in any of my derectional pipe bombs as thats so god dam dangerous.

well it is atf approved so that's step one
will it be cbsa approved? step 2
will it be rcmp approved as an expert witness by the crown when in court? step 3
will charges be dropped when the crown sees it is losing its case therefore not setting a clear case law? step 4
every single time a firearms case was close to being in the grey area, 50-50 chance of it going either way, the crown has dropped charges

What happens if you decide after the first round that you don't want to fire the second?

You might have overlooked this in the last paragraph ...

"The Franklin Armory BFSIII AR-15 Trigger includes a safety features that cancels the trigger-release shot by simply moving the selector switch to "safe" with the trigger pulled."

More info ... h??ps://www.franklinarmory.com/products/binary-firing-system-gen-iii-trigger-pack

EDIT: Of course, two skilled hands would be required to do this ... one to hold-back the trigger and the other to manipulate the happy-switch to the SAFE position.

WRONG! You can have full auto compliant parts in your AR and in fact many do. What you can't have is a full auto lower. A three position safety slides right in to replace a two position safety, it just doesn't do squat for full auto on the third setting.

And yes the binary trigger would change the rate of fire and will most likely always be prohib in Canada because of that.

This is absolutely false. There is nothing illegal about a three position safety. Easily available from Marstar. In fact, when NEA first started selling AR-15s they used full auto trigger mechs minus the FA sear.

Although the front-line Mounties could/would never say it, I suspect that they would like these trigger-groups installed on their someday-to-be-released (2021?) AR-15 "patrol carbines" ...

Like ... if you ever ever feel the need to light-up that weapon ... you would likely be craving the best possible effect.

You can maybe hear more about this on CBC's "The Current" on Monday morning ... :)

Spoiler Alert - Them folks at the CBC Broadcasting Centre will likely not be too enthused. (I think that they also had issues with LAR-15 pistol magazines, as well.)

:)

The answer is in post #5.

Prohibited device, end of story.

I know it will never be legal in Canada, but I wonder how well this would perform for say a 3-Gun competition. With a brake or compensator effectively negating any muzzle rise it would be fun to see if you could get both shots on target easily with just the one trigger pull.
