Pictures would help, but failing that some additional info would help.
1) What is the overall length of the projectile?
2) What is the driving band made of?
3) Is the driving band scored by rifling or not? If not, how far does it extend from the side of the projectile?
4) How far is the bottom of the driving band from the base of the projectile?
5) Are they any additional physical features on it, fuze, plug, tracer cavity, filler plug?

i was going to comment before that I thought this was a smoke or gas shell looks like it to me the driving band is clean no rifling marks hopefully the base is open and empty? how much does it weigh?

I'm looking at my manuals and not finding what I'm looking for...

18Pr and 4 39 seems to indicate its an 18 pounder from 1939.

so from the 1926 British manual

the following stampings will be found

1. steel maker's code letter and cast number
2. Mark of shell and letter denoting C.R.H
3. Caliber of shell
4. type of projectile e.g S.M.K for Smoke Shell
5. Makers initials of trade mark
6. contract number
7. Lot number
8. Date of completion of manufacture
9. Nature of material of which the projectile is made if not of forged steel

now to figure out what IC is...

Are you sure it isn't "I G" instead of "I C"?

I will double check and see if its a c or a g it looks like it may have been painted yellow at some point and i will do some measurements

Try a post on BOCN. British Ordnance Collectors Network.

Give them a clear picture of the markings along with measurements of the length, diameter, etc and someone there will almost surely have one and know what it is.

I have found out what it is ....they call it streamlined in the ordnance book i found ..... it is high explosive so it should be (and is now) yellow i still don't know what the initials are but can guess the D A may mean dominion arsenal...the one letter is a C not a G ...i do not have the correct fuze it should be a No 115 but all I have and it looks very close is a No 119...interesting project

yellow is HE Filled

Black if filled with powder

the different HE fillers had different coloured bands. Ie Lyddite had a black band and red band on the nose, amatol had a black tip with red band on the nose with a green band about 2/3 of the way down. Trotyl had a red band and the green ban 2/3 of the way down with TROTYL stencilled on the band. Shellite was top 1/2 green with a red band.... it goes on and on

I can't upload the pages as they are too big. shrinking them will loose all the information.
