Where has all the 7.62x39 surplus gone?

I have a very hungry sks to feed.

Where can I find some 7.62x39 at a decent price?

The cabelas and the local gun store near me are all sold out.

Several Cabelas stores are showing stock for surplus 7.62x39. You can buy it online and have it shipped to the store of your choosing for pick up.

I emailed Lever Arms to confirm that the non-corrosive ammo were actually non-corrosive, but never got a reply, and so, I have not ordered any.

There's a guy at my club who shoots about 500 rounds of it every weekend with his VZ58. I asked him a few times about it because I was skeptical that ammo so cheap could be non-corrosive. He said it was (non-corrosive) He also cleans his rifle after every use anyways so how would he know either way.... I understand some suppliers won't comment because of the wildcard factor with chinese surplus lol. I am considering ordering a crate myself just because of the shortage.

If I see him again this weekend I will ask him again to be sure before I do.

So apparently there is some surplus ammo around if you go looking for it - but just two years ago, you would have to edge around the pallet
load of ammo that was in the middle of many gun store floors. Is that in the past?

Most likely... the thing about surplus, is that it's a surplus. As in the past with 30-06 and 303Br for example, the surplus eventually is consumed. The only thing different is that 7.62x39 is still an active service caliber around the world. Though lots of the cold war surplus is in many people's hoards, plenty of it got shot off. Likely there will continue to be newer milsurp and reasonably affordable asian manufactured.

One of the appeals of milsurp rifles is that they are cheap to shoot... though I abstained from indulging as I like my rifles to be very accurate and I knew the cheap ammo train wouldn't go on forever.

Yes loading up when it was available was the best idea. Russian is next to impossible to find now at retail. Mostly I have used noncorrosive and the most of the contents of one PRC tin that i got 2nd hand from someones old basement stash with 1 tin being 1000rds (must have been heavy crates).
Several people have been happy to offload their stashed to me at a good profit to them. Now I'm starting to see payback on that.

Somehow

Don't worry about corrosive or non corrosive.... just clean your SKS after shooting....especially gas tube and firing pin....... its only the primer no big deal.

It's funny as surplus dries up sks will probably turn into 100$ guns again, the appeal of the gun is the price of ammunition, don't get me wrong they are a good fun surplus rifle, but once cheap ammo is gone the romance will be gone,

Sorry, we shot it all off last Friday. :p

Lots around, just need to look at some of the online (sponsors here) sources. Yorkton CT had lots, bit pricey, but it's available.
