Box, Accessories, No 4 Mk 1 REL Canada 1943 - What is it?

Hi guys,

Here's a strange box I acquired that I haven't seen before.

Has anyone else owned one of these and what accessories is it for? Did many of these get used?

Here is my R.E.L. box. Looks like it held gauges or tools of some sort.

I looked for one of these after seeing several threads about them.

by the shape of the inside it looks like it held a depth micrometer

I don't think that insert has anything to do with the original use for the box. Someone repurposed it to store a depth mike.

If it helps, I had my choice of 2 boxes. The gent had 2.
