Did you guys see all the new MK's coming out, I know of the 22cal 95's and 6mm 110's but never heard of the other ones until this.

Im very interested in the new 200gr 30cal. I was looking at getting a new barrel for my 223, but now Im looking at getting a new 308 barrel instead and I think these would work great for this. I cant find any other info on these, so do you know of a release date?

you mean 6mm 110grs! hehe! a 6mm 210 grs would have a b.c of 1.5!!lol.

The sku's have just popped up so able to take preorders. I would guess a month or two before supply actually exists.

If ordering the 30cal 200gr MK, be SPECIFIC on the product code. Sierra now has 2 bullets with identical names but grossly different shapes. And the manfs codes are 1 digit apart...Kind of silly but....

PM or Email.

Sierra seems to be making it difficult to keep your conventional twist rates (eg 1:10t). 30cal 200s looks to be a candidate for FTR but the recommended twist is 1:9 and 1:8 for the 230s gn 30cal. I'm thinking the 30cals 200gn #2231 maybe able to be stabilized in a 1:10 but with a lower published BC. It would be interesting to see what the minimum twist rate would be for this bullet and the loss of BC based on estimates of the stability calculator. IMO the requirement to change barrel to optimize the twist rate for the Sierra 30cal 200gn and the 230gn BC is limiting. Other 200s on the market only require a common 1:10T to stabilize. Sierra just eliminated most if not all factory rifles from utilizing this bullet using a 1:9t for the 200s to achieve the highest published BC. Changing twist rate on barrels just increase recoil (barrel torque) and also spin drift for a 308 at LR.

I'm going to bet that the 7mm 197 is going to be a swing and a miss. It's an ICBM on paper, but I think that it is on the back side of the optimization curve and will be tough to practically use. Put something that heavy into a fast twist 7 and drive it like you stole it and your setup will try to do a barrel roll every time it goes bang.

I don't disbelieve there published BC but.... The 308 200g is the highest BC I have seen. Burger introduced there new 200 20x bullet with a BC 620 and it is one fussy bullet, it shoots or you pull your hair out. The 6mm 115 DTAC is the same way. And Sierra makes that bullet. Matrix bullets out of Kamloops makes a 200 high BC but have not used it. Have heard some good things thou. Back when Berger introduced the hybrid they were all the rage before that the VLD and ULD bullets. All found there place. The new 200 308 Sierra if it shoots for you could bring you high scores. At the world FClass there were a lot of shooters using 200g bullets some of the ones using the 200 20x shot well others were frustrated. Lots of guys shooting the old 200 did well. Guys shooting the 200 jack did well. There were still the lions share of guys shooting the 185 juggs and a few guys shooting 155. So is the new Sierra line going to dominate? Only range time will tell. I suspect most will be like the 215 berger about 5 years ago. The BC was a sooo attractive then guys tried to push them to unsafe velocity/pressure. Most found barrels were done in under 1000 rounds and shooter position was critical. Not many people shoot them any more
With all that said when some of Sierras new bullets become available I will get some and try them. Why because they could be the next big thing. Till then ill keep shooting 185s and learning to become a better shooter/reloader.

I would strongly recommend a min of 9 twist with either new 30cal MK... I have 8 twist barrels here and what I would use for either bullet

8 twist and 308 is no biggie as I have shot this for a couple of seasons.... having a bit more spin is much better then not enough.

YMMV...

PS, most will find the old boring 210gr MK to be far easier to set up and it doesn't care whether 10 or 9 or 8 twist.

I am definitely going to try the 6mm 110s in my 7.5 twist SLR. I have read of people having success with the 8 twist and these bullets, but who knows how handicapped the slower twist is until you try.
I'll be launching them around 3100 so I think it'll be fine. The Berger calculator shows the 7.5 twist being just enough.

Say someone wanted to order a barrel to shoot these new 200's in a 308. Would a person have to wait until these are released to find out the optimal freebore or would you guess thats its pretty similar to the Berger 200.20gr which Ive read likes a .170fb?

Wait until you have the bullet in your hands... from the pics, I would say bearing surface is very short for a 200
