Advice on disposal of old ammo.

Hello all,
Cleaning up an Estate and came across a Tupperware bin full of old ammo. 12G, center fire rifle – 308 – 303 - mouser, rim fire, even some .22 wiz-bangs. Anyway, the stuff is in a condition that I wouldn’t put it in any of my toys so I started looking into disposal. Long story short, city - Ottawa, referred me to the police and they want to send a LEO to my house to pick it up. Nothing against law enforcement, respect all around, but I’m not sure I want to open my door to potential scrutiny.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Any PAL in Ottawa want it for free?

Since no one is really interrested at buying ( and pay a fair price) a ton of ammo i own, i got in touch with a friend of mine that will dismantled it and i can sell the components...

The less you involve police with anything firearm related, unnecessarily, the better. You wouldn't want to go on that list. Besides, like they say, one man's junk, in another man's jem.

I would consider just posting a "Free" ad in the EE section and i am sure another member can make use of what you have.

As long as you don't have to ship, but there should be someone in the Ottawa area ready to take it off your hands.

If you would have been willing to separate it instead of selling as a big expensive block of multi calibers I bet it would have sold . I looked at it and was almost tempted but there was a bunch in there I had no use for.

You could post an add at the RA Gun Club in the lounge ..I'm sure someone will jump at it.

Do'h! And I shoot there!

Guess I just had it in my mind it was hazardous waste. Didn't think anyone would want it. The Mauser rounds are freeky lookin with that long thin bullet and whoever heard of a .22 whiz-bang? Ya OK, one of you folks out there have....

Anyway, not for LEO, I'll find a gunny.

You'll be surprised it won't last long..:)

Just in case anyone in the Okanagan has the same problem; I volunteer to make the sacrifice of providing a free ammo disposal service.

Its happened to me a couple times so far where small amounts have been given to me. A fella I once knew had a truck load given to him years ago. He was in the right place at the right time.

I guess it can be a difficult thing for most people to deal with if they inherit someone's collection and don't have experience with firearms.
Here on CGN is probably a waste of time to make my semi-facetious offer. I need to find the courage to put an ad on Kijiji or Castanet.:sok2
