Wow, I dont remember it being this complicated when I took my handguard off for the SLR..

Is there a torque difference from the factory?

I don't have any "specialized" tools either.

I ordered the SLR Helix for 308 with "dpms high" as an option and it all fit. :)

Also, the weight savings is approx 10oz if I remember correctly. I did measure all this, but forgot where I put the numbers!

Since you guys are talking about barrel nuts and rails, does anyone have the Odin works 17.5" O2 Lite MLOK AR10 rail? I think im going to get it as it has an option to come with a Armalite 2.06" adapter.

Only thing is, this rail has a QD point near where the older style bcl rail was before they moved it up one slot. Wondering if theres a way to tell if that QD slot will work.

The odin works rail isnt as light as the SLR but its longer and I have that same rail in 15" on my AR15 and I like it alot

I think the problem with the gen 1 qd point was the barrel nut was getting in the way. I have a feeling Odin works designed their system so their barrel nut doesn't block their qd spot but could always ask them to confirm

Its blocked on the SLR? Doesnt the SLR come with another nut like the Odin?

What is the issue here? I can call Odin but I dont think explaining over the phone what a BCL 102 upper is without even having the guns in my hands is going to turn out well lol

Within Canada, where is the best place to order one of these ###y looking hand guards? And that Grip, what is it, where is it from?
Nice unit!

(that's what she said).

Most people got the slr handguard directly from slr. I finally got my bcl after 12 days shipping from Ontario to Edmonton

Thanks for the info! no issues getting the parts in from the US? (first timer here)
will the "308 Barrel Nut Wrench" they sell work on the BCL? seems it would be worth getting it shipped along with the hand guard.

Well, a fellow Gunnut and friend helped me strip down the BCL this morning.

Ok, so the following are bbl weights.

BCL 102 18.6" 2 lbs, 10 1/2 oz
Criterion Hybrid 20" 2lbs 13 3/4 oz

I was shocked that the Criterion was heavier. Not by much, but still. Even with the 2 extra inches, I automatically assumed it would be much lighter.

When you think about it, that's 2 1/2 oz of weight for 1.4"

Both of these weights were stripped bbls, no gas block, no bbl nut, no muzzle device.

Got the Criterion bbl installed, and the SLR handguard and gas block installed.

Just need to go shoot the beast and see how it all performs.

I'll update you all soon with performance and any and all issues noted.

I like being a guinea pig.

One thing to note, the Brownells BCG fit well with the BCL 102 bbl, but not with the Criterion.

However, the BCL BCG fit perfectly with the Criterion.

I'm not sure if the difference is in the bolt, or entire BCG. We will find out soon enough.

Once I have some lead down range, I'm going to put the BCL bolt in the Brownells BCG and see if there are issues.

Also of note. I used the "use a chisel and hammer to rotate the old bbl nut" method vs any other special tool other than the AR 10 vise block, for what it's worth.

So far, the upper/lower, buffer/buffer tube/spring and grip with detents are the only thing left stock.

How did you end up getting that barrel nut off? The squared part is easy to get off but the thicker part with the holes for the handguard screws is really on there
