Does anyone know of a lower which would fit an original Armalite upper? I am tired of having a prohibited doorstop, and a way to make the top half go bang (even at a range) might be cheaper than an entire rifle. Even a manual action would be acceptable. Thanks in advance.

In the 1980s there was a cottage industry in the USA making new semi-auto lowers for the AI AR-10 rifle kits. Several manufacturers made hundreds of lowers. Any of those should make for a non-restricted rifle up here.

Two downsides: they are now expensive down there, and you would probably have to wait on an FRT entry.

Be patient. New lowers are slowly being made in the US. They are extremely accurate reproductions of the Dutch lowers so I for one will replace my ugly Telko and Specialty Arms lowers. Will IRG import such a thing?

No other recently-made lowers will fit.

If you don't mind restricted lowers, I think CADEX makes one that fits.

Not correct. The Cadex AR10 lower receiver is the modern specification, which is based on an up-sized AR15. The original AR10 preceeded the AR15 and although similar, they are not identical in their proportions.

You are not correct Bartok5

This AR10 lower receiver is the real deal and will only fit Armalite and Noveske style original Armalite AR10 pattern uppers

The specs are in my link

Feel free to email Cadex they are very helpful and knowledgable

Indeed, they are. And if you ask Cadex whether or not their lower receiver fits the original 1950s Artillerie Inrichtingen AR10 upper receiver, they will tell you that it does not. The Cadex lower fits the modern (eg. reborn) Armalite company's AR10B pattern upper receiver as well as that of Noveske.

You must understand that the modern Armalite company produced 2 different patterns of AR10 lower receiver. The first (AR10B) used a modified M14 magazine which was all that was readily available during the US Assault Weapons Ban of the 1990s and early 2000s. Once the AWB expired, Armalite was able to manufacture new high-cap AR10 magazines and switched their mag-well configuration to that of the Knights Armament Stoner rifles, which DPMS and most other modern AR-10 style rifle manufacturer's also follow. Your lower receiver is the AR10B configuration and only accepts the modified M14 mags or Armalite company's newer proprietary magazine.

The bottom line is that it would make zero financial sense for Cadex to produce an AR10 lower that fits the original AR10, as the only tiny market for those would be the USA where original, AR10 parts kits were available in extremely limited numbers during the 1980s. Your will find that your Cadex lower receiver is incompatible with an original AR10 upper receiver. This is old news to those of us who dabble in the original, Dutch-manufactured rifles.

Now you tell me. Had I known that buying the original AR-10 parts kit that was in the EE would have been a no brainer. It was pretty cheap too but I figured I’d never be able to find a lower.

Who’s making them?

HHollow, are your AR-10s restricted, non-restricted or prohib with the semi lowers?

I have the Cadex AR-10 lower with the Gen A Armalite Upper. I upgraded the handguard to Troy. There was an issue with the lower I had and needed a relief cut for the bolt catch cut into the frame. 5 minute job, Cadex sorted me out quickly and got a factory tour in the process.

Nice, but not what we are discussing. What we are looking for is a new-manufacture lower that will fit this 1950s Artillerie Inrichtingen upper receiver:

News to me! Is any further info made public?

The key is if the manufacturer chose to register as an ITAR exporter. If they did, IRG should have no problem getting them.

This very low key as the markey would only withstand maybe 20 pieces. So no ITAR.

What about older stuff beforte ITAR existed? Such as my Telko and Specialty Arms AR10 lowers made in 1983? Can IRG handle those? I wil have some to peddle when I "upgrade".

Thank you all for replying. I do indeed have a 1950s AR like (though not as nice) as the brown stocked photo above. It sounds like I'll be waiting a while yet; either for new made lowers, or chancing upon the 1980's one. sigh.

The few times that I shot the AR at PQRA matches, it would keep all rounds scoring at 600, with just the factory irons. Haven't shot it in 30 years.

Mine shoots MOA with my 168gr SMK hand loads, no exaggeration. That AR10 is without question the most accurate and ergonomically correct of all the battle rifles that I have owned (which is most of them). Such a shame I am not permitted to take it to the range and share it with fellow enthusiasts. Another 20 years or so and all of the 12-series prohibited long-guns will be but a memory confined to museums....

Premonition? Brownell’s is releasing two retro AR-10 models. No idea if they’re compatible with the original but one can only hope.
