I’m buying estate lot, 3 rifles had sightsground off how much does it affect value

So 3 of the rifles had a “home gunsmith” job done. Iron sights ground off of one barrel, and two had dovetail sights removed then gap filled with epoxy.

How much should that reduce the value? I’m ready to just say they are considered damaged goods and $0 those 3 in my calculations. Am I correct in thinking that?
 
Epoxy isn't hard to remove...
Depends on the rifles...
Maybe they should pay you to take the guns...


So many bottom feeders out there, I've made sure my next of kin know the value of my junk.

I think you are right. Was it "5-minute" or regular epoxy?

Thats after he sends all three to me.

There is a whole lotta information missing from the items in question and we all know this.

Obviously someone was to excited about the possibilities or to much coffee was consumed before hitting send.

More info as to the types and makes of these three firearms.

I wasn’t looking for a valuation of the firearms, I was more checking if they are just junk because of the mods. I don’t have the full details or pics to share yet I head back over on the 28th to help clear the house as it was a family member. Sadly the executor is making me pay the estate for them even though it was stated that they are to go to me. I just wanted some ammunition against him to help drive the price down as I’m sickened to have to pay.

Anyways, the one 30-06 was an ooolllddd Husqvarna, then there’s two .22s another old husky and a new Savage. The other guns thankfully have not been wrecked! I was thinking of just turning the 06 into a project gun and rebarrel the Mauser action. The savage was just epoxied, I will look up the removal process, thanks to those that suggested it.

Ok. The jist I get is there could be value depending on what they are. That’s all I needed to know, I thought they would be worthless if non professional work was done on them.

All I needed to know was either: 1. Nope they are worthless no mater what or 2. Yes they may hold some value depending what they are

No gun is worthless due to sights being ground off, unless it is now dangerous to shoot.

If you ground the sights off on a collector Winchester, you would have decreased the value big time, but it is still worth shooter grade value, which is a lot more than $0. If you ground the sights off a Husqvarna you might lose $25-$125 in value depending on how crude the job was.

Modifications usually reduce value, but they pretty much never make a gun worthless.

You didn’t offer up enough information .
There are some silly questions posted on here from time to time, but then there are the really dumb answers.
Those are the ones to be worried about.
You know, the questions on home defence “what’s the best ammo for....”
That’s a dumb question.
