Hey Guys

I am in the market for a progressive press. I have heard great things about both Dillon and Hornady warranty. But I am curious about experiences in Canada, which one is better. Based on personal experience, who has the best warranty in Canada?

For instance, I hear that if you break small things on the press they will send you replacement parts free of charge and no shipping. But most of this info seems to come from people in the USA. Do these companies charge extra to ship across the boarder? or do they have repair/distribution facilities in Canada?

Also I have heard if it is a bigger warranty issue they want you to ship the press to them for evaluation. any one have ideas of cost shipping across the boarder each way?

I know this might seem silly, but we all know parts on progressives break. I don't want to spend $1000 on a press and then another $1000 in shipping over the years getting it fixed.

I would like to hear from people who have actually gone through these companies for warranty issues.

Thanks for any help

You won't have any warranty issues with big blue(Dillon) . I don't think they put a lifetime warranty on the 1050 as it can be used as a commercial machine, but the others are covered. I bought a well used Square Deal a while back that was almost worn out and the good people at Dillon sent me all the parts to make it new again without any trouble or charge.

I bought a used hornady progressive, it did not index right and upon inspection I found out that one of the two indexing pals (hardened metal pins) had a small corner chipped off.
Emailed hornady a picture of the issue and serial number and got it shipped right away.
Also mentioned i wanted to order a case retaining spring since the one that was on the press had a flat spot.
So together with the replacement part they added two retaining springs free of charge.
Thumbs up for hornady, I would not hesitate buying a new or used hornady press.

No issues with my Hornady Progressive L&L AP as still new but many years ago when I bought my first progressive shot shell re loader - Hornady - I broke a few parts and they mailed me replacement parts immediately...I had nothing but good experience so when I bought progressive press for metallic cartridge I went with a Hornady. Have absolutely no issues with Hornady and the powder measure is great!

I've had Dillon send me parts on three different occasions, zero charge, zero hassle. They replaced my powder check buzzer 5 years after I bought it even though electronic components only carry a 1 year warranty. I've yet to see a company match the level of customer service that Dillon provides. I've also heard good things about Hornady's customer service but I have no first hand experience.

I recently sent in my Hornady case feeder hopper. The plastic funnel on the front was broken while moving. It’s a ten year old unit and they no longer have that part as the unit has been changed a bit. Hence why I had to send it in. There is a newer model they may be sending me that one. It cost around $50 to send via Canada post. Perhaps a courier would have been cheaper not sure. It’s on it’s way back now. They did say something about a ten year warranty on that part.

The 1050 is only 1 year warranty. That being said, they have sent parts to me N/C after 10 years.

I've had mine over 12 years.

Dillon's warranty is the best.

I have 2 Dillon presses and have had parts shipped to me quickly and free of charge. Hornady has been great to deal with although it was for an electronic dispenser and not a press. I made a point of grabbing a spare parts kit for each press I own. Not sure I have heard of a company requesting you send in the whole press for assessment. Dillon does refurbs on presses if they need a lot of TLC or updating..

Thanks everyone. Not helping me narrow this down, haha. But good to know that both companies will take care of me in Canada with out too much hassle

Simple, buy the brand that currently owns 90% of the market. Don't nickle and dime this decision.

What are you planning to reload tom?

If it’s striclty pistol caliber a square deal B is $540 to the door. You’ll just need to buy your components, scale, digital caliper. I’m not into any rifles yet, so I can’t speak to the cost of anything else.

I’ve only loaded 600 rounds, but it’s an addictive rabbit hole to jump into..

You won’t have any issues with parts warranty with Dillon. Have had minor issues with my XL650 on 3 occasions. In each case their knowledgeable customer service guys quickly diagnosed problem and sent me replacement parts free of any charges within a week or two. They are great to deal with!

Ohh all the stuff I wish I could buy, you are right it is addictive.

what I am looking for is something todo pistol and plinking rifle ammo. My target rifle rounds I will still make on my RockChucker. I am stuck between the lnl ap and the 650, But I am not going to start that argument here. was just curious about the warranties.

Yeah SDB wouldn’t be for you. Unless you want a dedicated 9mm press.. I can already see how guys have 2 or more for different primer/powder bar setups

Reloading is going to cost me :d
