An LGS has a ruger #1 in 243 with rings. It’s in good condition. What do they go for and is 243 a desirable caliber for a #1.....while I’m writing this.....what’s a #3 in 45/70 go for? And NO....I don’t need the $5 answer. Thanks all.

I would expect the #1 to be in the range of 1500 if it's used, likely more though. I don't think the 243 version is particularly desirable, but personally I think that a #1 in any caliber with less oomph than 30-06 is a waste of engineering. If you're going to have a really really ridiculously strong action, why not put it to work? As for the #3, I have no idea, but I would like one.

Used No1 values have climbed since the new ones are going for $1950-2250 depending on model. If the rifle is in good condition, probably will sell for the $1200 range. About what a new one sold for six years ago. A no1 that has been used and abused still fetch $700

No.1 value is dictated by version, condition, age, wood grain and cartridge.

You have only answered one of those factors... any valuation guess is virtually worthless... however, unless it is an RSI, a .243 will not sell for $1500 even at todays new prices... more likely $1200-$1300 in excellent condition for an "A" and $50-$75 less for a "B" or "V."

Only reason I don't have more info is because I have no idea what to look for in a #1 or #3. I know a little about marlins but not much more. That's why I ask.

Post a picture, find out which version it is, post an accurate description of the metal and wood condition.
