ACR Media and Info Thread

Would it make sense see if shorter than 18.5" barrels on multicaliber rifles could be designated as the restricted part instead of the upper receiver?

Actually that would make sense, The receiver could stay NR. But I would only need to register my 10.5 barrel to R

Exactly. Instead of essentially having two ACRs to enjoy both crown land and shooting a short barrel on a range you could do both with the same rifle.

My only reservation would be if it went the opposite direction and multicaliber platforms all became restricted.

Had some fun in the snow today with my ACR. Just thought i would share some pics.

I've been thinking of getting a 10.5" for my ACR And what is the process to go from NR to R?

Depends on the day it seems.

Properly, you need to find a Firearms Verifier in your area. Since you are making it restricted, he has to come to YOU, you cannot transport a Restricted rifle when its not registered.
Maybe you could transport non restricted, change barrel at verifiers locations, verify, change back and go home?
They will confirm it and fill out the paper work to be submitted to the RCMP. It should be a free service, but there might be charges for driving/fuel if he has to (or is even willing) come to your location.

Most gun stores have a verifier on site, many times its the gunsmith and they charge the gun smith rate to verify and fill out forms. 1 hours tops. Not sure how you legally get there with an unregistered restricted firearm.

Before I became a verifier, I use to call the RCMP and ask to speak to a technician. We did it over the phone and made a new entry in the data base, if needed. Others have mentioned the same thing. Depends who you get and how their day is going.

Thanks for that bit of info.

a couple of more questions if you don't mind.

Why do you need to get it verified if the ACR comes in as restricted?

How do I find a Verifier?

call your local gun shop and ask. They most likely have a verifier, on site

the law requires you to notify them of a change within 30 days

Most people overlook this problem, thinking the 30 days to notify of a status change will cover them, which it does not if you are transporting or using the firearm according to the CFO in BC

Correct, all because you notified them, does not mean you are good to go. It has to be added to the registry and you need to get your slip before you can transport it. As a verifier we are required to drive to the rifle in question if it cannot be transported legally. Problem is finding time, and fair compensation. Easier if you go to the verifier. I’ve had people change barrels at my house to restricted/non restricted for the varification process. Then revert back and go home.

It has to be verifiered as a way of proof that the barrel has been changed. Sort of a moot point these days with so many quick change barrel systems available. Also tools are readily available for most rifles to do it yourself.

If your rifle is registered Restricted, and you change from 16” to 10.5”, verification is not required, they just want you to call it in and update. Some rifles have multiple uppers with various lengths, they just make a note on the file that it’s a modular rifle. All barrels must be from the same classification. Either all restricted or all non restricted. You cannot swap back and forth from restricted to non restricted without verification and registration. ####ty, I know. Quick change barrels have very limited use in Canada. Caliber change being the main.

Call gun shops, gun smiths, and some clubs have them. I was sponsored by my club to become a verifier.

Talking with TV-PP in the past, he had said that they are more than eager to change the status from NR to R with no verification and just a phone call, however going the other way will always require a verifier.
