12ga reloading components

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I'm interested in reloading 12ga shells for waterfowl hunting so it would be steel shot.

Can anyone suggest a good place to find components for hunting purposes? ie: steel shot, hulls and wad's? Ideally I think I would like two different colors of hulls in 3" and probably 2-3 sizes of shot. Maybe #4, #2 & BB.

Also any suggestions on what was seems best for hunting purposes?

Id like to find the powder and shot locally (lowermainland BC) ideally as it would be heavy to ship. But I don't mind buying primers, hulls, wads etc. Online.

Thank you for your time and in advance I appreciate any response.

It can be done but when I did it, it wasn't any cheaper when you pay through the nose for steel shot. I would watch for those large milk carton size packages of bb's to go on sale and buy a few. After the change over kit to load steel shot and the price of components I went back to buying factory loaded. Hummason in ONT sells all components for shot shell reloading, except steel shot. I use them as my price guide for anything at other stores.

You are entering a very rare type of reloading in Canada. BPI has everything you need but being US based they are limited on what they can ship. Their re-seller in Canada is Will Bilozir.
I think once you do the math, your adventure into reloading steel will come to a quick halt like mine did.

I shot 12ga, 3" steel field loads.
In the beginning, I have ordered from Will Blizoir but not anymore. His prices are +/-25-30% higher than those of BP web page, even in times when US and Can dollar were almost the same. When you call BP they do nothing but refer you to Will.
Later I ordered a big batch of SAM 1 wads from RSI and still have them.

Powder is from Hummason Manufacturing (http://www.hummason.com/)
Shots and primers from local supplier (Wholesale/BassPro)
Hulls are picked up/used.

When I did this it (4-5 years ago) was still cheaper to reload. Now, you cannot compete with what wholesale had for sale before closing their door (SCORE field ammo $12/box)

I am still good for another 2-3 hunting seasons, then I will check prices and see.

If I decide to reload again, I will check this Italian site (http://armeriaceccoli.com/bossoli) It seems they have Bashieri e Pellagri, the same products what BP sells with another name.

I found that it really isn't any more economical to reload 12 ga. Perhaps after a while you may find a better load but for me it was of no benefit over store bought shells.

That would have been many years ago, at least 10 or more they stopped sending sam1 to canada
Cheers

Hummason Mfg. Ltd., Ancaster ON

Powder and primers only for steel reloading. That is when they have the ALLIANT STEEL powder in stock
No suitable wads or shot
TNT in sask is the only place I have found to get those items in canada now
Hulls I buy state side in batches of 500 and pay to get them legally imported for me and only remington or federal. Rest are crap IMO
Cheers

...i reload steel in 12 and 10...i just like to reload...i like the fact that i control another aspect of my hunting...and i live remotely...and i have loads that are devastating in both gauges...i shoot a lot of ducks and these loads really reach out and clobber them...if you enjoy reloading then buy the advantages book and the components and go at it...i use bilozir dot net and have picked up components when in alberta at his place or have family that will do so and he's at some gun shows as well

...i also shoot steel out of a smokepole and limit my range and that has worked well for me but others complain...and that's economical and a heck of a lot of fun with a dog especially

...i can only see the future price of ammo continuing to go through the roof which is why i stocked up years ago...i have enough components to literally last my lifetime now all on yesterday's prices

...i also have 3/4 ton of lead ingots that i melted from free sources but that's another story

It was +/-4 years ago pretty sure.

I will have to check , maybe they started again since a couple of years after 911 they stopped cold. I was buying shot, sam1 and buffer there for many years prior
Cheers

I just found an e-mail where I asked again jan 26 2011 and they said no but I have not asked since

Thank you everyone for your replies. I know that it would not be a big money saver and I only shoot maybe 10 boxes a year. But i thought it would be something Id enjoy and would probably get better rounds than I get store bought.

I currently tend to shoot #3 and BB in Winchester high speed. I know many complain about the Winchesters but I don't find them that bad. At a point in time I was getting a great deal on Remington sportsman speed steel? But I despised the black hulls. It made it difficult to find spend rounds from a semi that likes to chuck them pretty far.

Despite it not being a big cost savings I would still like to get into it, just no point in buying a press of i cant find the hunting components I want.

I will look into some of the sources you have suggested and go from there.

Thank you again for your time :)

First question I ask is what province are you in. That makes a huge difference
Reloading 12ga 3 1/2 and 10ga steel is cheaper for sure and all of my reloads are better than factory shells with respect to patterning etc
Cheers
