IPSC Site SO SLOW

The Ontario IPSC site is so frustrating. It's just impossible to log into and sign up for a match; I keep on getting "The site cannot be reached" presumably due to the crazy amount of traffic. Brings me back to my university days when online course registrations first came out on the infantile Internet.

Is any other IPSC province experiencing this with their site?

Ontario: when are you going to upgrade?

I am trying to sign up for a match. Registration opened at 8pm. I am still on the computer constantly reloading after receiving error messages to try and get a spot. Just brutal.

At 9pm I'm officially throwing in the towel.

Ipsc executives needs to go in the next election, the slow site have even got worst, we have complained so many times at IPSC Ontario forum and zero response so far from the board.

Took me 45 minutes to get signed up for the Match, thankfully got in the time slot I wanted.

Check out toe Forum and see the bio's for the new people running for the Board - vote accordingly. I am confident we will see some change this year to the website with some newly appointed board members.

Everyone experiences this issue right now.. as soon as a popular match opens up everything just crashes.. extremely frustrating.

I was away from IPSC when the original situation happened, but it seems to be revolving around a dispute between the board and the person who developed the site integration (sign up/results/classifications). So it seems that the following happened:

- Person A develops the code but retains the rights to said code
- Board A has a falling out with Person A and he is removed from site development (more details here that only the parties know of)
- Board B tries to patch the system as best they can without Person A's involvement with limited to no success
- General membership asks to have Person A apologized to and reinstated to try and fix the issue

So it seems choices are to reinstate Person A and somehow resolve issue of code ownership and on going maintenance/compensation, or move beyond Person A and go with new code and development process.

Does this sum it up?

I have limited knowledge on the subject but this is the same information I have heard about the issue.

Hopefully it gets resolved after the election and appointment of new board members.

Are MD's obligated to use the ipsc sign up site..?

It is the only way to actually verify memberships when signup for a match occurs. If it was through Practiscore directly there would need to be a way for IPSC Ontario to verify the memberships. (Unless Manually verified etc.)

This has not been mandated for a few reasons in Ontario. For example Sharon uses or did use a phone in system to register. Others use a mail in system.

Practiscore... Problems solved.

As far as verifying membership... Can't we trust people enough that if they sign up their membership is up to date.?

I saw the title and knew it was about IPSC Ontario before I even opened it.

Opening registration times at 3am is a work around that keeps things from crashing but fixes nothing. Practiscore seems like a good idea but there are probably many questions about control.

Choose your 4 votes wisely and let's see what happens.

There are few things omitted from this description.

* There wasn't one person working on Ontario web site. There was a team

* The team was providing a 7/24 service to run, maintain and support online system. Volunteering their time and expertise to the organization

* The whole team stepped down when board wanted Person A out

* For the last 2 years, the same team has been offering IPSC Ontario to get the web site fixed (rough estimate is about few weeks to get it running well) and then maintain in a proper order as a service provided to organization under a proper contract for both parties. Up to now board of directors haven't got back to us on this offer

PractiScore - one issue solved, multiple other issues added. To be dealt with by MDs, provincial IPSC organization, as well as by competitors.

PS: as a disclosure, I know a guy or two who has some inside knowledge of PractiScore web infrastructure

Thanks for clarifying, as I mentioned I was not around when the unpleasantness happened. And unless one is in the inner circle they never really know the whole truth, or at least the version of the truth from the person telling their side. ;)

I doubt there is an easy fix that will please everyone. But everyone knows the status quo is just not working.

Fix is easy from a technical point of view, see edits in my post above.

Though it would requite people in power to admit they were wrong all that time and start taking member's needs as the first priority vs. feeding their egos.
