So I managed to go shooting outside today, and decided to get more familiar with my shotgun and slugs. The good, is that i can get it to group nice at 25 and 40m with just the front bead.
The bad, is that the group is from 6" to 14" to the left. I am researching this, and some say bent barrel, some say ammo is not matched to the shotgun, ( 2 different manufacturers shot left today ) or to put an adjustable rear sight on it, and last but not least, that the chokes could be off center. I could not pattern shot to compare as the range does not allow shot.

I'm curious as to the brand of shotgun also... Chinese?

It could be a shooter issue also.

Could be sights

Could be a poa vs poi issue

Could be style of slugs

Could be rand of ammo

Turkey. But I have read some people with name brand shotguns have also had issues. The bead on the front looks centered. It could be shooter error, but it groups just fine. I was using the cylinder choke, maybe I should put another one in?

No idea, I was all by myself. I would assume so, I mean its a basic shotgun design, same as my Winchester Ranger 120, just a short barrel. everything looks straight from receiver to bead.
I have been reading online about some shotguns having crooked mag tubes, and it pulls the barrel off to the side. Benellis included. I should get out to the country tomorrow and set it in my gun rest. Then I can run shot loads out first, then slugs and se if its left of center.

Can you improvise some sort of rear sight to help you diagnose it? Like maybe a little dot of hot glue? Something you can pick off later without doing any damage.

not just mag tubes.... could very well be a crooked barrel. It happens.

It could be the barrel, but it’s only 14” long, you would have to really want it to be bent.

Kodiak, I was thinking of getting one of those milled in xs rear sights put in the vent rib, or see if the receiver can be drilled and taped for a rail. I would rather not though as they are worth more than the gun.

just a thought . how would it work to run a large carpenter square down the side of the receiver to make sure your barrel is square with the receiver . it would not have to be out of alignment very much to through things out of wack. i had a 410 shotgun that was terrible with slugs as it would not hit a three foot square at thirty yards yet it threw a great pattern with shot. i put it down to what i believe to be an oversize barrel and never let it bother me as it was just a fun thing with the slugs anyway. let us know what you figure out.

Well yeah, and you don’t want to put money into it if it really is a badly bent barrel. Hence the thought of a temporary macgyvered rear site, just for diagnosing problems. Can you return the gun if need be?

I once bought a used shotgun that I realized AFTER purchase had a bent barrel. This one must have fallen and it managed to bend right where the tab slides into the receiver. I heated it and gently bent it back which took several attempts, then tempered the whole area. I eventually sold it to a buddy (with full disclosure!) And he still uses it today, 7 years after the fact.
Try sticking a 4' dowel down the bore. Make sure it is snug with no slop. This will add to your sight radius. Now look down the receiver like you are sighting a target, If the barrel is indeed bent this should tell you.
Just to add a personal note, this is one of the reasons I tend to collect winchesters. They don't rely on (or have) that tab as the main structure of support. They use a shorter heavier collar that slides into the receiver. The neck tension on that collar along with the mag tube make for a nice solid alignment.

What? Another one. What is warranty on these things?????

If you bought it from Corwin, contact him. He replaced a semi that fell apart while shooting for a guy I know. I'm petty much certain the guy didn't assemble it right, so it was totally his fault, Corwin still exchanged it.

I just emailed him, he said he would exchange it. I'm going to verify it with an IC choke, and also with regular shot, just to make sure first.
